Rule No.1 when planning longer stay in Poland is to learn Polish.
And, if your grandma has told you that Yiddish or English is the
official language of Poland, don't believe her, or you will be very
disappointed. Rule No.2 is: don't associate with assholes like the
one who comes from Glasgow. I like Scottish people from Melbourne,
they don't attack Poles for speaking Polish in a taxi.
Rule No. 3. Join some peer group of professional people: Poles and
non-Poles and learn some local ways. Enjoy theatre, art galleries,
bars and restaurants. Rule No. 4. Once you get invited by an
intelligent Polish family, then you will learn what is Polish
hospitality and discussion level. This is not kind of crap you would
normally see while sharing a pitcher with your fat Canadian mates.
Rule N. 4. If cozy streets of Krakow are too provincial to you, go
back to London, Paris, or wherever you come from. Rule No. 5. Poles
like foreigners, but Poland doesn't need winging wogs. Respect
Polish ways and Polish realities. I have been where you come from,
these places are not ideal, too. Be reasonable. Welcome to Poland!
