Pre-Treatment
In consultation with a physician, the tool is designed to be used by patients
who have had a biopsy of the prostate confirming the presence of cancer. This
nomogram can be used to predict a patient’s probability of survival prior to a
primary treatment. Primary treatments include radical prostatectomy,
brachytherapy, or external beam radiation therapy (and do not include
neo-adjuvant therapies, such as neo-adjuvant hormones and neo-adjuvant radiation).
Post-Radical Prostatectomy
In consultation with a physician, the tool can be used to predict a patient’s
probability of survival after a radical prostatectomy –- the radical
prostatectomy being the patient’s sole primary treatment for prostate cancer.
Salvage Radiation Therapy
In consultation with a physician, the tool is designed for men who have
experienced a recurrence of their prostate cancer after receiving a
prostatectomy. For these men, the tool predicts treatment success for salvage
radiation therapy (SRT), calculating the probability of cancer control at six
years after receiving SRT to treat the recurrence.
Hormone Refractory
The tool can be used by patients who are considering receiving hormone
refractory treatment. This tool can be used by people who have been treated
either with prostatectomy or radiation therapy as a primary treatment.
Additional Tools
PSA Doubling Time
This tool, which tracks PSA doubling time, can be used to predict the
probability and time to the development of metastatic disease.
Life Expectancy
Using inputs of current age and racial category, this tool calculates average
life expectancy, which can then be used for comparison when considering the
survival probabilities of the various treatment options.
Volume
This tool calculates prostate tumor volume.
