Wyglada na to ze La Nina skonczy sie w 2009 a potem czekaja nas dwa lata suszy. Zdaje sie ze w pore zainstalowalismy zbiorniki na wode... Dzisiejsze i jutrzejsze upaly przeczekam w domu a wieczorami bede zanurzac sie w oceanie.

NSW was bracing for a heatwave today as the Australian Bureau of Meteorology published its annual report showing last year to be one of the hottest on record and predicting more scorching temperatures this summer.

Firefighters were on alert across the state, with temperatures expected to reach 41 degrees in parts of NSW today. In Sydney, Penrith is tipped to be the hot-spot with a forecast of 41 degrees. Liverpool can expect 39 and Parramatta 38, while the CBD will reach a high of 31.

The NSW Rural Fire Service was using 10 aircraft to fight fires in Singleton, Goulburn and Wingecarribee yesterday.

"While they're predicting an average rainfall for the season, the temperatures are expected to be higher than average," said Bob Rogers, assistant commissioner of the NSW Rural Fire Service.

"There's every chance we will have bad fires."

The mean temperature across Australia last year was about 0.4 degrees above the long-term average, making it the 14th warmest on record, the Bureau of Meteorology said in its annual climate statement.

The average temperature last year was slightly cooler than the previous few years because of a La Nina weather cycle, leading to colder and wetter weather.

An El Nino cycle, which generally leads to hotter, dryer weather, was likely to affect Australia in 2010 or 2011, said the head of the bureau's National Climate Centre, Dr David Jones, leading to record highs.

"This is entirely consistent with climate change projections," Dr Jones said. "We shouldn't confuse local weather patterns with changes in climate and the long-term trend is for rising temperatures."

This year is likely to be warmer than last year, although local conditions will vary. Last year parts of northern NSW and the Hunter were cooler than average because of higher rainfall, while most of the state was hotter than average.
