Carisoprodol, the medication's active component, blocks pain signals travelling from the nerves to the brain. Additionally, it soothes the nervous system and lessens emotions of tension, dread, and anxiety.
There is not enough data to support continued use of this medication, so it should only be taken for a short time (up to 2 or 3 weeks). Additionally, this medication should not be taken by women who are pregnant or nursing because it may transfer in minute amounts into the milk.
