"Coty Prestige is offering a new classical women’s fragrance to Jil Sander,
named Style. With Jil Sander’s current classical franchise, N°4, now aging,
the company hopes the new line, due to be on the shelves in September, will
be “the best launch” of the year in its home market Germany, according to
Françoise Mariez, senior vice president Marketing European Licences Coty
Prestige.
“Jil Sander fragrances, which generate annual sales close to $100m, have a
market share above 10% in Germany, “ Coty Prestige president Michele
Scannavini tells Cosmeticnews.com. Scannavini intends to internationalize the
brand starting with a focus on the US, Asia and Italy.
The fragrance, which targets 30-35 year old women who know the Jil Sander
brand, will be supported by single and double page ads in press. In Germany,
a 15 second TV advertisement, made in collaboration with leading local
perfumery chain Douglas, will complement this campaign conceived by Tho Van
Tran of French agency Air. Belgium photographer Willy Vanderperre shot the
pictures that feature Polish model Malgosia Bela.
Jil Sander Style will be positioned as a more sophisticated offer than the
brand’s main ranges, which are the more casual lines Sun, Pure and Sport. “It
will be priced 10% to 15% higher than its sister line Pure, in line with
ranges such as Chanel N°5”, Mariez specifies. Prices range from € 21 a 50ml
deodorant cream to €69 the 75ml EdP.
Symrise’s Bernard Ellena signed the woody floral EdP. The scent starts with
freesia, mango (a first in fine fragrance, according to Ellena), cardamom and
pink pepper. Its body mixes violet, magnolia, iris flower and jasmine while
the base notes comprise vanilla, amber and musk.
Jil Sander Style EdP goes into a white opaque flacon, by Patrick Veillet (who
signed the bottle for Kingdom by Alexander McQueen). “My aim was to evoke
both a woman’s silhouette and a dress by Jil Sander, added with a spiritual
element,” Veillet explains to Cosmeticnews.com. “The result is a simple,
elegant two block flacon in between which two mirrors reflect violet
lightwaves and recall a woman's waist.
The eight-sku line will launch in Germany, Austria, Eastern Europe, the UK
(with an exclusivity at Harrods department store to start with), Benelux,
Switzerland in September/October. A roll out should follow in 2007."
