Yes, I know about michelin internet page and their maps and options, but I
would like to hear some exepirence from people who actually travelled on this
roads. Sometimes road looks in much better shape on the map then in reality and
        vice versa.

        Hvala, bolje vas nasli :-)

Just take into considration two options:

          - avoid as much polish roads as possible (take the shortest one from border to
          Kraków
          or
          - use motorway from Zgorzelec to Wrocław, pass through, and then to Kraków

Either of them you'll use you'll be moaning - that's the reality in Poland :)

          Cheers

            Dear szymizalogowan,
I will enter Poland at Cieszyn and from that point I have to options: via
Bielsko-Biala and Wadowice to Krakow.... or to go towards Katowice and then on
motorway to Krakow. This second option has more kilometars but road looks much
            better. What do you think?

              much
              > better. What do you think?

Really can not say anything about their comparison, back in 2000 I was working
in Germany and few times had used the way from Warsaw through Radom, Kraków,
Wadowice, Bielsko-Biała to Cieszyn (and farther to Munchen)

however I find the road Kraków-Bielsko-Wadowice-Cieszyn to be very inconvinient
              (narrow, bad condition etc)

As I said back then I haven't used the motorway (your second option), but
probably I would choose it now.

Anyway you'll be complaining and moaning, even if you'll get here using the
              motorway from Katowice :)))
              • croat1 Re: need advice, please, road to krakow 10.03.05, 16:02
OK, thank you very much, one dillema is solved. I'll pick Katowice.

One more thing, when you were driving to Munchen, did you go from Cieszyn
towards Brno? This is supposed to be better road, right?

And do you by any chance know anything about road from Cieszyn to Zilina in
Slovakia? This is actually the shortest route for me but it looks like narrow
                mountainous road.

I used to go from Warsaw to Vienna & back a couple of years ago and:
                  1. to cross the border in Cieszyn should be alright
                  2. Cieszyn-Zilina is a decent road, it's not a five-lane freeway by any means,
but sufficient enough. Not so narrow and not so mountainous. Still I don' t
advise going there during heavy snowfall - mountains are mountains.
                  3. motorway Krakow-Katowice... at your own risk.
                  It's driveable OK, but
                  expensive like hell
and every five kilometers you get men at work for ten kilometers, which means
it becomes one-lane, but remains expensive. Something like in Slovenia in the
nineties, the motorway ended all of the sudden but you still had to pay.
Note: you pay entering the motorway AND leaving it. At least this was so last
                  summer.
                  Have a good trip

                    Yoma,
Thanks for description of Cieszyn-Zilina road, and I hope it won't be snowing
                    on march 27th.
And what about Krakow-Katowice motorway? Well, I'm used to expensive motorways,
in Croatia we pay for them something like 3 euros per 50 kilometars. And when I
arrive from Zagreb to Cieszyn I will alraedy have big trip behind me and
probably feel tired and nervous, so it might be better to take less demanding
                    road.

Krakow-Katowice motorway is not so bad any more. I used it in the beginning of
January 05. There are still some works on it but not as much as last year.
Specially that there is winter now, not good time for road repairs. It costed
PLN 5 plus 5 so all together PLN 10 one way.
                      • swoboda_t Via Bielsko,Katowice,A4 motorway is better choice 10.03.05, 23:51
More convenient, no problems with signs etc. Katowice-Kraków motorway costs 11
PLN in one way, not 10, but it doesn't make a big difference anyway. Have a
nice and safe ride. Greetings from Katowice.
