Why do we have to log in?

27.08.05, 13:38
Hello.
To some forums at gazeta.pl users do not need to log in to post a message.
I think it is difficult for some foreigners or poeople from abroad to log in -
because the whole procedure to set up an account at gazeta.pl is in Polish.
Keep well. Can it be changed?

Good question. For me the bind is not only having to log in is not only logging
in but the fact that it doesn't remember me even ten minutes later if I come
out for whatever reason, and it doesn't allow for passwords which are remebered
on the machine. Believe me, I would like to make this as open as possible, and
if I could do it without the log I would, as to me it makes only the difference
that of you have a lot of people called "guest" it makes it hard to know who is
who, and after all we are trying to create a community here.

In any event, as you'll know if you set one of these forums up yourself, you
are limited to the options that are in the control panel. I have chosen the
most public of the options. If anybody who is also a forum moderator knows
anything I should have or could have done to make this better then I'm glad of
advice. I'm really a usenet guy more than a forums guy, and when I do forums I
always get the sense of playing away from home.

But they have their uses, and one of them is that people who haven't got to
grips with usenet do nevertheless use them. Another is that they archive the
writing for longer and you cannot get around the archive as you can in usenet.

The best thing would be, actually, for gazeta.pl to run a whole mini service in
English bringing together the English parts of the whole portal, like some
Polish news in English, like Maggie's forum, which is a successful English only
forum, aimed at Poles learning English and this forum, aimed at foreigners with
a mixed and open language policy.

They way to get them to do that of course is for those foreigners and English
speakers who can use the system to produce a lot of traffic on the groups
catering for them, so that we can make a case to gazeta.pl for an English
      language account dialog box.
