Flemish

I have a Polish friend who wants to start learning Flemish. Do you know any
Flemish speaker living in Lodzkiego? She's very nice, motivated, with good
English.

Maybe Dave you know somebody, since you seem to know quite well the expat
community.

Just write me if you know somebody!
Thanks,
Ervin

      As you can see here:

      www.belgium.pl/expat/index.html
the Belgian authorities have a rich programme for Belgian expats all across
this country. The rich content there will be an appropriate place to start
finding Belgians in any part of Poland. Trust the Belgians to be diligent and
put together a fine resource like that for their people here!!

I personally speak with Flemish people in Dutch. A foreigner is unlike to learn
the language well enough for the diffrerences between standard Dutch and
Flemish to matter anyway. And I would think Dutch people would be easier to
      locate than Flemish speaking Belgians.

Thanks! I will forward her your answer. It might be hard for her to learn, but
she's extremely motivated because her boyfriend is Flemish speaking Belgian and
it is possible that she will move there

Again impressed by your language skillssmile

That's kind. I have to admit, though, that if you're an Englishman who's
studied German, then Dutch/Flemish is almost the language you get thrown in for
          half price.

But specifically setting out to learn Flemish, rather than Dutch is a bit like
me telling you that I was going to try to learn Moldavian rather than Romanian.

You probably would say to me, why make it hard on yourself when there are so
many more Romanians around than Moldavians, and it's basically the same
language with a handful of mutually understood differences, right?

One other interesting thing, I heard a South African at a conference I went to
last year have a strong Afrikaaner accent, and I just addressed him in Dutch,
and with my accent it was already academic whether it was Dutch or Afrikaans,
and he said automatically "where did you learn your Afrikaans?" - I never did.
What I can understand of it came free with the Dutch.

I got the comparison between Romanian and Moldaviansmile I would say that the two
languages are the same, but at that period to underline the independency of
Moldavian the lawmakers wrote in the Constitution that the official language of
            the country is Moldavian.

Did you work in the Republic of Moldova?

Not yet. It's a place I'd like to visit, though.
