Hi, maybe you can tell me if the british citizen needs the card of stay, the
work permission or only he needs to check - in. The ladies in the offices are
still not sure what to say...
thanks for help.

British citizens since last year get a document called a Karta Europejczyka or
Europejska or something. It's valid 5 years (instead of one, like the old karty
czasowego odbytu) and it's easier to get, but you need to take out insurance
first. This means you can live and work legally in Poland, at least until the
next time they change the regulations. If you marry a Pole, you can work even
      without this.
I don't know the exact details, because I was supposed to get one when my old-
style karta pobytu ran out a year ago but couldn't be bothered. I'll do it
      tomorrow smile

You don't need a permit any more, only a karta pobytu, and of course the person
needs to do the good old meldowanie, get a PESEL and a NIP, and then they are
just the same as any Polish person.
