Travelling and photography

18.10.05, 17:37

Recently I've finished creating a blog/site which includes photos from our
trips during 2005 along travel diaries (not all diaries are finished).

To make a long story short, here is the address:
thebartiski.blogspot.com/
On the right side there is a sidebar where you can navigate by "Previous
posts" or by using "Archives".

I hope that you will enjoy it! I especially recommend the pictures from Sahara
or from Chefchaouen.

      Hi BE,

I love your pictures, BE. Very well done! I can tell you have a genuine knack
      for photography. Good stuff. smile
Have you ever visited www.msnbc.com web site? If you go to the picture gallery
at www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4999736/ I bet you will find it very
interesting. Those pictures are so powerful they really speak for themselves.
In a sense they are very much like your pictures...
You can view the archives as well. The 9/11 shots are truly breathtaking.
Maybe you can give it a try and send MSNBC some of your work? See what they say!

Thankssmile The pictures are not just my work but also my wife'ssmile

Yap, I checked the msnbc site. Indeed, the pictures are amazing. The 9/11 photos
and the ones with African immigrants crossing to Ceuta and Melilla were my
        favourite.

To take such photos you need better equipment than what we have and you need to
be in the SPOT. When I was working with Bosnian refugees in Slovenia I also
could have taken good and very sad photos but back then I wasn't fascinated by
photography. My wife had a better chance than me when she was in Azerbaijan
working with IDPs, but if I remember well she wasn't allowed to take photos.

Maybe if we will make it to the field (Chechnya, Sri Lanka etc.) then we will
also make it to the msnbc sitesmile But I have to say that rather wish the first
        one will come truesmile

Although, I think that photographers play a huge role in making people aware
what is going on in the world. Journalists also play a huge role, but a pictures
always brings you closer than words. I just realised this at the World Press
Photo this year, when I was overhearing people who didn't know about the
conflict in Darfur and they discovered it through the eyes of the photographer.
So they have a mission toosmile
Some months ago I discovered the site of a called Heidi Bradner
(www.heidibradner.com). She has shocking pictures from Chechnya and also
Chernobyl. Just watching the photos makes you shiver.

Well, then your wife must be obviously very talented too. Good for you.Good for
          her! smile
I looked at Heidi's pictures but I find the resolution to be a little off. If
your camera has a good focus and it shows really sharp in high, clean pixels,
it just helps to appreciate the pictures a lot more. I think every single
detail in the picture is extremely important.
I am glad you liked the msnbc web site. Every single week there is new pictures
that continue to bring a new level of insight into the world we live in. I
absolutely love those. You are right, the photographers have a mission to
fulfil. They go places we can't go and bring us their "stories" and experiences
in the form of pictures, oftentimes risking their lives. Unfortunately, a lot
of them get killed in the midst of fires or rebel and militia fights. Some of
them are journalist correspondents that do both the news part and the
photography. Those guys are no doubt true heroes.
Keep up the great work and I am looking forward to new pics!

I have a small beginning of a gallery on my site, but obvoiusly my work is
pretty useless in comparison with these ones.
          • bartis_ervin Zosia Zija's site 24.10.05, 12:23

The other day I was looking for something on the net and I came across the site
of a Polish photographer. She is called Zosia Zija and she has quite impressive
photos but her site is more impressive. Definitely it's one of the best sites
            I've ever saw.

If you have time it is really worth checking it out.
            The adress is: www.zija.net

              Hi Ervin,

Thanks for the link. I have something for you as well that I think you will
find interesting. Go to www.webshots.com/homepage.html. This is a really
great place with fabulous photography. I am there every day to check for "Daily
Photos" updates. I just pick what I like and then add it to my own collection.
You don't have to be a premium member to start your own gallery.Just add the
pics available to "regular"m members as you go along. The premium feature gives
you a superior resolutin and a better format but it's totally optional.
You will need a lot of time to discover the entire collection that's there for
you to view. These are all professional photographers and the pics are truly
              amazing.
In any case, there is also something that might interest you even more. Look
for the "Community webshots" tab. You can download as many pics a day as you
want and you will find almost anything that you are interested in. Just for the
heck of, it I put Ceuta and Chefchaouen in the search line and it came up with
a whole pile of pics. I am sure you and your wife will like them a lot,
especially if you guys have already visited those places.smile

You will need a few minutes to find yourself around but after you get the hang
of it, it's so much fun.

              All the best,

              Kylie smile

        Hi Ags,

I like your pics a lot, especially the ones with you and the blinds. Cool idea
and a great effect.I have never been to Torun but I really like your pictures.
I think I will put some into my collection (I hope it's OK?). I might be wrong
but my readings say you didn't use a digital camera. If not, the lens on your
camera must be excellent since those pics are really bright and crisp. And you
yourself look like one cutie patootie. Probably have a whole pile of boyfriends
lined up outside your door...smile smile

        Thanks,
        Kylie smile

          Hi Kylie,

Thank you for ur compliments and really I do appreciate them a lot. Actually, I
am using a digi camera Argus brand which is one of the coolest and cheapest I
know- bought in States and still great fun..

Feel free to upload any pictures you like, flickr is a free web page unless you
wanna upload an unlimited number of pictures then you are asked to buy a pro
account which I am using. The advantages are multiple, one of them is simply an
easy to use uploading pics tool you may install on ur desktop. smile

My idea about photography is to promote Poland to foreigners so that they are no
longer prejudiced about Easter Europe and its ppl in general. In the future, I
would love to take part in some Tourism/Movie Making smile

Gradually, I will be adding up pics to my photo gallery, if you have any
comments regarding certain shots don't hesitate to join flickr and comment on them.

As for boys, I cannot say there are crowds of rivals fighting for my heart, for
I am already in love, although I do admit I am surrounded by some large
community of cool male-friends wink heheheehe...

          Take care
          Ags

Thanks for the info. Since I already have an account with Yahoo, I was able to
downolad a lot of pictures I was particularly interested in. Basically,it is
the same idea as Webshots. Good source of really lovely pictures.

            Thanks for the tip.
