Recently I came across a Newsweek edition dedicated to technology. Here I've
found an interesting article called "On the darknet". The article describes
the invention of Ian Clarke, called Freenet.
The inventor created a software which enables users to exchange information,
but the real invention is the following: it is practically impossible to check
who sent the information, what kind of information and who is the receiver.
Basically the sent file/info is "torn" into pieces by the software, and it is
put together again only before the receiver gets it.
Ian Clark says he is a free speech advocate and his invention enables people
living in totalitarian system to change information without the danger of
being tracked down. Just as every invention, this also has a negative side:
the Freenet is also a "home" for pedophiles or for sites with pornographic
content.
The idea made me ask myself quite many question and I am curious what are your
thoughts.
I wanted to try so I've downloaded the software but it is not so easy to use
and until now it is quite slow.
