UK, France;unhappy of new power of Eastern Europe!

The Gurdian article "Poland's disenchanted killed off 'New Europe'"
www.guardian.co.uk/Columnists/Column/0,,1602405,00.html
is nothing more than a western "cry from the grave", or rather
economic depresion in which western european countries found themselves.
Faced with loosing vital number of votes in EU institutions countries such as
France, England, and Germany; envy Poland its new found political power.

If we add that this "power" is in hands of polish conservatives it is obvious
that predominantly liberal Europe is not very happy about sharing some of
their EU power with Poland.

Considering that in order to win French people support for enlarging EU in
2004 French governement told French public that "they (French) not going to
loose anything, because France is going to change anything, but it is only
going to be larger....." Such a comments show exactly what intentions the EU
big countries had...They surely hoped to control Poland politicaly and
economicaly. Their bold design obviously failed and they are now very unhappy.

I heard the interview with some of the French citizens who year later
complained that they were promised that; "France going to be BIGGER after
Poland and other east european countries joined EU"... it clearly shows how
ignorant and selfish western european societies are...

Jose Manuel Durao Barroso before beeing a EU top hat was a liberal Portuguese
Prime-Minister with a turncoat story going from Ultra-Left parties after the
Portuguese revolution in April 1974 to Ultra-Liberal democratic foreign affairs
minister and follower of the Western world agenda for a New World Order after
Bush private "Oil Wars" but this is other story.

During the last enlargment of EU few journalists asked the opinion of PM Durao
about the enlargement and the threat of 10 new countries to the weak Portuguese
economy, the answer, said between a yellow smile and a - open-the-damn-door-of-
this-car-because-i'm in a hurry - was more or less this: "Threat to Portugal?
No... We have to localize our country in the EU as a middle-sized country with
a important role in the European context..." smile))

At the time I was still living in Portugal and my Polish wife not only was
illegal (in spite of beeing married legaly to a Portuguese citizen) as couldn't
find work because of that, I was working in a car saloon having a miserable 445
EUR salary, working 8 to 10 hour a day, doing everything from selling cars to
hoover and wash them plus the extra task of listening to my ex-boss betrayals
to his wife and bruises resultant from the fights after tongue_out

When I started maturating the idea of living in Poland what I listen was
something like "You do well, here is finished, a new Europe will start there
      and so on..."

What can I think? Politicians are terrified with the idea of the so called ex-
iron curtain getting powerfull, it was confortable when this people were
driving Trabant and Polonezes, rulled by the Warsaw pact and with the back
turned to West, Poland for instance is almost the size of Spain and 3 times
larger than my own country, Portugal.

For example French have nowadays a real civil war in they're own country as
result of the Ultra-Liberal policies and "Laissez-Faire Laissez-Passer"
mentality, Germans are loosing ground due to the high costs of production and
beneficts given to they're workers, UK is hooked to the USA and to the Pound,
Iberic Peninsula faces also great challanges and if it wouldn't be for the
touristic industry things would be much different.

Today in the Portuguese newspaper "Correio da Manha" there is an article about
the Portuguese students studing medicin in Czech Republic, apparently every
year there is a growing number of Portuguese moving to that country as result
of the wrong political measures and corporate mentality in the modern Portugal,
a deep fascist mentality even after 30 years of the end of Salazar regime.

Regarding conservative politicians I considered them more an obstacle than
something else, Poland needs some sectors to be privatized as for example the
PKP and transportation companies and other state companies still full
of "Socjalizm" mentality, also the influence of catholic church must be putted
to an halt, this Radio Maryja for example is one of the greatest tools in the
hands of conservatives and definatly influenced the results of the Polish
      elections.

thanks for sharing your point of view with us. I was not at all trying to imply
Poland is in any way better, of than the western part of UE but I'm tired of
listening of British and other wishfull thinking they need to wake up to new
        reality.

Poland is a part of the Europe, neither both old and new one...I just hope in
one generation people in the west will loose judging Poland on its past and
calling it "former Eastern Block member" or "former communist country" that is
        nonsens.

If you graduate from the university you no longer "former student"...14 years
after graduation, your are "educated adult".....right!?

I understand your point view, is the same as people refering to my country and
Angola as Portuguese Former Colonies as Angola and Former Portuguese Empire,
          Former Colonialist Country etc...

The happenings such as communism, fascism, World Wars, Cold War, Colonialism
etc are in fact recent, wounds didn't close yet.

Poles have a tendency to believe that westerners are considering Poland out of
the European reality or as some kind of outcast... wrong wrong wrong...

You have to understand how much this bloody cold war diveded our continent,
when I was a child we didn't study the history of II WW from the point of view
of Europe, our vision (Portuguese vision) was: the German Nazi rulled by Hitler
killed many people and invaded many countries but then came the USA to help
British and French to finish the war, after the war Europe was dived by the
Warsaw Pact were Russians made an agreement with other countries to be
          communist and they're allies.

We're still living a time of discovery as incredible as it mite seems Waldek,
the same way you don't want to see people calling Poland "former Eastern Block
member" I don't like to see my country beeing called "former coloniast country"
but that's how history is I guess.
