a chav invasion? :)

Holidaymakers are seeking ever-more exotic locations to avoid "chavellers", a
World Travel Market report has revealed.Chavs, typically seen as working
class and jewellery-loving, are frightening off the middle-class traveller,
the report found.Julian Rolfe, of research company Synovate, said: "The
prospect of going somewhere the chavs favour is too awful to contemplate for
the middle classes."

"For the middle classes, going somewhere like Chile, Libya or Mozambique has
real bragging appeal and sets them apart from the crowd.

"You could say the more affluent are seeking a road less chavelled."

The report also found that low-cost airlines were dictating how European
countries performed as tourist destinations.

Low-fare flights now make up 40% of the total UK air journey market to Europe.

Estonia has reported British visitor numbers were up 77% on last year after
EasyJet started weekly trips to its capital city Tallinn.

Similar booms were seen in Poland, Slovakia, Lithuania and Slovenia.

----
To be honest I haven't seen an invasion of Chavs in Warsawsmile Maybe you guys
have a different opinion? Do you think Central Europe is their next
destination after Ibiza and Mallorca? Is the british yob culture about to
descend upon us?smile))

A little bit about 'Chavs' :

I think the closest thing in Poland you get to a 'Chav' is a 'dresiarz' (?)

I have seen a surprising amount of their beige pseudo-tartan coming into
fashion among Poles, who don't realise how dreadful it is.

I have noticed quite a few lower class British tourists about, but earlier in
the year. There is less tourism going on here.

Warsaw could be a reasonable destination for the less culturally aspiring
traveller, since the lazy musicians and dancers close all the main theatres
over the main tourist period, museums have too many closed days and too short
opening hours, and there are too few of them, and there is almost no original
architecture. For those who just want to go clubbing and drinking and eating
and not spend too much, and who don't mind being sent home to bed at ten
o'clock, this could be the ideal resort.

but you agree that bigos is still better than eggs with beens- usual breakfast
        fare in UK....?

Plus I heard those poor english ladies crying quite loudly about "competition"
flying into Britain in a form of the high-chic bone, round faced cute slav
ladies from Poland....Why are you in Poland anyways?

Mmmmm, I've seen quite a few old people on their Wallace Arnold holidays, don't
know about the 'lower class' part though...

You think it is that bad? I guess it is a little surprising that
theatres/actors etc. have a long summer holiday break, like teachers. Part of
        the socialist dogma.
But most of Poland is closed during summer?smile

Original architecture? Well, okay so the commies pulled most of it down - what
there was left of Warsaw, but I think socialist architecture fo MDM and PKiN is
quite interesing to tourists. Although a shame that Poles do not look after it,
like the Germans. On Karl Marx Alle in Berlin, most of the buildings are under
        protection.

Maybe it is Krakow that is more interesting for tourists. I agree that Warsaw
seems to have no tourist agenda. Other cities are better at advertising
themselves. Maybe Warsaw has lost it's character because of the post war influx
of outsiders, as well as lack of style in architecture.
It's a shame. I think that if Warsaw and Varsovians weren't so baldy done by
during the war, we may have had a chance to still be the Paris of this part of
Europe, as Warsaw was once called smile

I've tried to explain to Poles that Burberry's just moving into the East
European market because nobody in Britain takes it seriously any more.

Hey Waldek, get a hang of yourself!

If you want to do no more than put people down, then go somewhere else. You're
getting very irritating to say the least.

First the ignorant tirade against Maggie (your thread) which had no basis

I'd suggest that you get yourself a girlfriend, and do what most people do

The Scottish equivalent "ned" is more general. "Ned Culture" in newspaper
headlines corresponds to "Yob Culture" in the English papers. "Ya wee ned"
      = "ty mały gówniarzu".

I put some Polish politicians names into the ned name generator on the Chewin
        the Fat site.
Roman Giertych is Sad Case, which everyone already knows, Lech Kaczyński gets
the ironic tag Big Man, and Andrzej Lepper, worryingly, is Stoater.
A stoater is something great (a brilliant joke or goal) or, when used of a

There are 80 shops in Warsaw stocking the product right now. Barrs, the
producer of Irn Bru, has done a deal with Optimum Distribution. This is not a
fully publicized fact, but I just got off the phone with Joe Flynn, who is in
charge of bringing this product to this country, and who also is responsible
for the tremendous success of the product in Russia, and he said it was alright
to let this Group know the good news.

If you want to know which of the Warsaw stores are carrying Irn Bru already,
the people to ask would be Optimum. I will follow this up if I get time.

This is a trial ball right now, the full launch is not expected until next
year, and they will then have a country wide launch with appropriate
advertising. As you know the correct time to launch a CSD is at the opening of
the season, which is around April, so my expectation would be that they will do
                  it then.

I'm very excited about seeing this product coming over to this country. It is
actually Scotland's Number One Grocery Product, not only the number one
Carbonated Soft Drink in that country.

I hope it strengthens the already very strong cultural links between Poland and
                  Scotland even more.

They tend to be really suspicious of anybody from the west coast.
They're nice to tourists from whatever corner of the globe, they're as tolerant
of immigrants as in other Scottish cities, but a lot of them seem to
