He's straight and ready

If they want a politician, we can discuss it. If they want a diplomat, I'm
not the right man
“I AM ready,” said President Kwasniewski of Poland when asked whether he
would like to succeed Kofi Annan next year as Secretary-General of the United
Nations.

“I am a straight man, an honest man,” he told The Times yesterday. “If they
(the United Nations) want deep reforms, if they want more a politician than a
diplomat, then we can discuss it.” But if they want a diplomat, “I’m not the
right man — there are better diplomats than I.”

Isn't he clever? wink

He might not be that clever after all. Considering the wide range of interest
held by more than 150 UN member states, the security council will be more prone
to choose diplomat than a ...politican to head the UN, when Annan is gone.

Sensing from Kwasniewski's statement, he's sounding like George W. Bush who's
pushing for deep reforms within that organization.

Quite frankly, the only way to do that job is with very aggressive and far
        reaching reforms.

Any other way of leading that organisation will make someone as big a failure
        as Coffee Anin is.

I sincerely believe that the global force / forum is needed, but it will never
work as was originally intended. It's too big, too diverse and too expensive.

What do you think could be done?
        • waldek1610 Pros & Cons-Kwasniewski's shot for a top UN job? 27.11.05, 08:30
I believe Kwasniewski is the right man for a job, but wheather he's
electable...that I'm not sure about... Considering that countries on the
security council get to select the candidate.

Russia will vote for North Korean or Iranian before it will let Poland's ex
president become to become representant of the World comunity...that would be
an insult for Russians who believe themselves to be the champions of all Slavs.

USA going to vote for Pole, China for "someone from Asia", France and
Germany?...that's not so sure. I'm guessing since Germany don't want Poland to
belong to European G-6...why would they put a Pole "a weaker neighbour"
          superior?

I wonder how his ability to apply for a UN job will be affected by his
propensity for pardoning his mates on leaving office?

Is this to prove how UN-ethical he is?

Yes, and I would REALLY like to know why all of a sudden he has come to the
conclusion to pardon Sikora. One of the main characters on which the
              film 'Dług' was based on...
              www.imdb.com/title/tt0225535/
There were 3 attempts for him to do that in the last 10 years and only now he's
seen the light?! What is this supposed to be? Some kind of testimony?
