Bary Mleczne

People! Discipline!
There is an interesting thread on the forum about "Your Favourite Places",
but 93% of the posts on it are about:
- semantics (honour vs. integrity)
- the meaning of Englishness
- the human arse
- the unanswerable Irish Question
- a certain gobshite comparing himself first to a bush, then to an alsatian

And most of the posts in the "Irony" thread aren't about irony. Which is
ironic.
Someone else can start an "Arse" thread, and an "Unanswerable Irish Question"
thread, this one is about milk bars.

Well, they are a dying breed so to speaksmile
      Let's see what's left?

      In Warsaw:
"Karaluch”- Krakowskie Przedmieście near the University of Warsaw
“Familijny”- Nowy Świat near confectionery „Blikle”
“ Bambino' on Krucza corner of Hoża

Here's a blog, belonging to a bloke who visits them all the time:
      barmleczny.bloguje.cz
And here's an interesting artsy innitiative with the same name:
      www.barmleczny.com/

And as I am told, there is plenty to choose from in Krakow, Torun, Poznan,
Trojmiasto etc. so catch them while you can before all that is left is one of
those awful american fast food places!

    • waldek1610 Speaking of bad food; my bro' in law is in England 28.11.05, 12:11
and he is begging to send him some eatable kielbasa(sausage) the best would be
from a polish deli, ....so we'll send him some for Christmas...

I heard Chirac and Berlusconi commenting on British food but I didn't know it
      was that bad....

Well, there is some logic behind all that, Janek. A human mind is a very
interesting phenomena....And this how it works: you want to know about "bar
mleczny"? - start asking about our daily diet. You soon find out that our diet
is totally appaling and you want to know more about it ( 13 replies later). We
overeat on carbs, don't have any fruits or veggies, never exercise and soon you
realize that we really need help!

      "So you are constipated, right?"

      10 more replies...

"OK so what did you have yesterday, the day before yesterday, two days ago....

... some 16 more replies later...

      "perogies!" (sob sob)

"ha! that would explain certain things!..".

By now you are some 40 replies into the original question and guess what? Some
very kind soul is willing to tell all about our sinful and abhorring activities
at bar mleczny! AND this is when you will VERY SOON find out where bar mleczny
is in Warsaw and possily in other cities in Poland. No one wants to let you
      down, Janek!

Simple, see? - that's how it works. So what's the big kerfuffle?
You just need to be a little teeny weenie, teensy-weensy bit more patient,
      Janek!!!
Rome wasn't built in a day!

Mmmmm... Rome... Now there's a good place for food.
I was surprised to discover they put slices of aubergine on pizzas, and it's
        actually quite good.
And it didn't seem to bother anyone that most of the stall-owners selling JP2
keyrings and golf-balls were Arabs. Maybe Christians are more tolerant than I'd
        thought.

Ever tried a "Hamburger Pizza",Janek? Just when you thought you couldn't run
fast enough to get away from McDonald's (aka "McPuke's" also known
          as "McBarf's")...

Hmmn. Arabs are not necessarily Muslims.
This is one of the problems I sometimes encouter, as I am fairly critical of
Islam, but I have nothing at all against the look of the Arabs, their style, or
anything else about them other that the ideas that come from their religion.

Some Iraqis, such as Tariq Aziz, are Christian, and even held high Baath party
positions. What exactly he was thinking of I know not.

That's a good point, but surely a Christian Arab would be deeply ashamed of
commercially exploiting the tacky trinkets of his faith, in much the same way
            that Poles aren't.

As far as I'm aware, Baathism is a kind of secular pan-Arab socialism, and like
most ideologies looks nice on paper. But after you've been persecuted by your
local Tsar, then risked your life to overthrow him, it's hard to admit the new
system you've introduced is no better than the old one. Especially if you're a
            nutter like Saddam.
