Why do Poles spend more time talking about

29.11.05, 17:39
alcohol than drinking it?
"What? You are not Polish but you can drink two beers without falling asleep
in a puddle of vomit on the pavement or sitting in a corner saying 'kurwa,
kurwa'? It is unbelievable! I myself do not drink but other Poles do. At
least, my friend heard that Germans say they do. No, I do not know which
specific Germans. But many people have heard of vodka. I read about this."

I happen to wholeheartedly disagree on this one. I happen to think and see that
POles tend to like thier alcohol too much - on any given occasion....
      Big social problem.

This problem was settled by well known Polish poet J. Tuwim in his "Drinking
dictionary" - written somewhere about 1936.

I remember "occasion". (Quotation is from memory, so may not be perfect) "A Pole
drinks [alcohol] when he's got an occasion. If there is no occasion, he drinks
in despair there is no occasion to drink."

I personally found it very funny and still do so...

Most people believe that you can't argue with poets, but this in fact is untrue.
All poets and bards write about alcohol, every writer who writes introspective
nationalistic verses that he wants he wants the whole country to buy, writes
about how much his compatriots/readers can drink. It's called populism. Burns
          was the same.
It's all because of the complex that poets have.
People always ask poets, "So you're a poet? You must be a soft girlie
          homosexual, then."
And poets reply in a deep voice, "No! And I'll write a thousand lines about
vodka and breasts to prove it!"

      ianek,
you surely sound like you've been drinking. I had a hard time making sense of
      your post. What's your point?

        failed. smile
