I know there were 300 odd Scots having a ceilidh at the Hotel Victoria.

I know because I was kindly invited by a Scotsman, but I couldn't afford the
entry fee for two people at 380 zlotys a head when my November money hadn't
      cleared yet.
      • nasza_maggie Re: Andrzejki:) 06.12.05, 13:26
380zl?!?! for a bit of haggis and the sound of bagpipes?! only jokingsmile
tha's how much sylwester costs in some hotels.
        • usenetposts Re: Andrzejki:) 06.12.05, 20:38
It was supposed to be quite a knees up, with authentic music and dancing by
          guest artists frae bonny Scotland.

What about a St George's Day bash? I'm fed up of always playing second fiddle
to the caledonians and hibernians in the folklore stakes.
          • nasza_maggie Re: Andrzejki:) 06.12.05, 20:49
how are you going to compete?
by doing a spot of morris dancing perhaps?smile)))

              > how are you going to compete?
              > by doing a spot of morris dancing perhaps?smile)))

Maggie, what kind of question is that?
If Dave gets his kilt up in the air while dancing, the competition for others
is practically over! Huge win for Dave, hands down. I am not gonna tell you
WHAT you will find under the kilt but I CAN tell you it will be lightly covered
by a few golden threads hanging from the kilt...

I love mystery and I thought it would be something nice for you to think aboutsmile

(A little tip: it's not the threads I am thinking about).

              smile
              • nasza_maggie Re: Andrzejki:) 08.12.05, 16:57
Yes, but Dave isn't Scottish (!?) so he won't be wearing a kilt.

The only English folklore dance I remember is morris dancing - that doesn't
involve a skirt. It involves a few bells and wooden stickssmile

I'm still waiting to hear about the 1000th post bash!
            • usenetposts Re: Andrzejki:) 07.12.05, 00:40
What dates would suit people for the belated 1000th post bash?

Whose gonna be over in Warsaw?
              • russh Re: Andrzejki:) 07.12.05, 05:36
                Count me in.

I'd suggest during a weekend (not many left before xmas), and to bring better
halfs. You name the date, I'm easy (so they say).

Why does it have to be a one-off? We might even enjoy it!

PS - I'd suggest that at least on the first bash, we forget the cultural side,
and go straight for the jugular.
    • ejmarkow Re: Andrzejki:) 07.12.05, 12:26
It's too bad Warsaw is so far away from me. Have you all ever thought of coming
down here to this typically beautiful Polish village? smile

      Cheers,

The internet (Brits spell it with a small "i") is a weird and wonderful place,
and I really appreciate reading the banter that's posted, but wouldn't you be
nervous that somehow meeting people in the flesh would be disappointing?
Mind you, one of the things I've noticed about living in Poland is that most
non-Poles tend to muck along quite well for the sake of a good time. I've had
some good times with the most unlikely of people.
        • russh Re: Andrzejki:) 07.12.05, 13:00
I think you've got in in one, re the 'mucking in'.

The only problem is the one that we create in our minds - the image, if any, we
give to people that we are dialoging with.

Personally, I'd love to meet you all. Couldn't give a damm about the image, and
hope that we have a good time. For sure, there will be differences, but in a
'crowd' they don't matter; in fact most times it's better.

Don't worry, Eugene the New Yorker. If nothing happens for you, I WILL keep you
company...like playing the online version of Wheel of Fortune maybe? I was also
wondering if you've got any pics of Siemiechow to share with us? I have about
16 gorgeous countryside pictures on my computer and they make a beautiful
        addition to my screensaver!

There you are. I said that Polands countryside is not normal!

I've looked at the picture - really nice, but fancy having all of those things
in the middle of a field! Not normal.
            • kylie1 Re: Andrzejki:) 08.12.05, 04:25
Beauty's in the eye of the beholder. And what's in the middle of the field that
you are talking about? The cow? It looks well fed and healthy and, believe me,
              it belongs there!

              smile
              • russh Re: Andrzejki:) 08.12.05, 10:16
                Ooh Kylie. My comment was humorous, or at least tried to be (English humour;
dry, full or sarcasm, not capable of being understood by people on the other
                side of the atlantic etc.etc..).

If you look at the photo, there are many images; houses, a church, a well etc.
                all apparantly in the field.

So I wrote (and if you read the style again, it should be obvious, even to
someone on your side of the atlantic) that it's not normal (hee hee); because
normally there are not so many things all in one field.

If you need, I'll explain it again in another form. Let me know.

                  Hi again!

I was going to provide you all with my Siemiechów web site
(www.geocities.com/ejmarkow/siemiechow), however, you beat me to it!
Anway, I took various images from photos of this village, and combined them all
on to one background for that effect. At least, you have a taste of what it
looks like here. To see a current photo of me so as not to suprise or frighten
anyone, just go to livingineurope.blogspot.com/. My blog isn't finished
yet. Anyway, you all decide the best place for a meeting. I have a feeling it's
going to be in Warszawa because that's the most convenient place for all of
                  you. Keep in touch!

                  Cheers,

                  Eugene

As said before, nice place! Complements, and hope that we'll all get together
                    one day.

Hi Kylie, Rush, and everyone else,

Thanks for the nice comments! Even though sparsely populated (many cows
though), there is always a good neighbor to share a wine, beer, or vodka.

                      Cheers,

                      Eugene
