Insurrance, restaurant and others

05.12.05, 11:29

Was away for a while but tried to follow the discussions.

Dave you mentioned a Moldovan restaurant. Could you tell me where is it? Do
they have a good "mamaliga cu branza"? On the way from airport somewhere
around Dworzec I noticed a Moldovan wine shop. Can't wait to check it out!

Those of you who are foreigners what kind of health insurrance you have in
Poland? Are you with the national insurrance house, you have private
insurrance or you have an international one?
Recently I signed up with Opieka Medyczna, which I think is done by PZU. I
didn't really check other companies, but this one seemed ok.

Greetings,
Ervin

I think it depends on which part of the world you are in.
As far as EU nationals go, doesn't it have something to do with E111 ??

I know a few who use this card.

It's in Ostrobramska, just east of the Promenada stuff and in the same group of
buildings. It has it's own bit of the big car park in between the Promenada and
the furniture store to the east of it.

If you pay ZUS then you are entitled to the national one. You only get a E111
up to 6 months, and if you don't pay social insurance in your home country,
only here, then the E111 is not an option.

Maggie and Dave, thanks for the info!

I guess ZUS is payed from my salary (as far as I know I have no other option).
But I was thinking that this is not enough so somebody recommended Opieka
Medyczna which is fortysome/month and theres no extra payment for tests/treatment.

All I know is, that these insurance schemes drive up the cost of health without
giving the healthcare professionals one extra grosz - on the contrary, they
pare the cost down that the doctor gets, and he's the one healing you
(hopefully) not the middle man monkey in a suit who gets a salary for juggling
          with your cash.

That's why I personally don't subscribe to private schemes. If I need to go
privately, I pay the people who are actually looking after me and my family.

          It c o s t s n o m o r e , and you can be pretty sure I won't be behind
the privately insured people in the queue.

On the subject of insurance, I think the first of Pratchett's discworld novels
            pretty much summed it up.

Well, I don't know about this aspect. All I know is that my Polish is not good
enough so needed to find English speaking doctor.

"I won't be behind the privately insured people in the queue."
I don't get what you wanted to say by that. As far as I got it, the company has
its own clinic, so has nothing to do with putting some people back or forward in
            the queue.

Even more so - if they have their own clinic they will want you to go there,
whereas if you take the money and just invest it yourself then when you need it
you can pick whatever place you like and pay there and then.

What if their clinic is not the best place, or is booked up? They will try and
              limit you to it anyway.

Insurance is a pretty shitty thing. I generally believe in doing as little of
it as I can, and just making sure that I've got other reserves instead in case
              I get a problem.

Some things, like ZUS and car insurance, you have to have, though.

But nobody gets their money's worth. Only the bureaucrats thrive at the
              policyholders' expense.

      Thanks.

But the problem is also tax & mot, both needed on a yearly basis, and requiring
to go back to the uk by car!

      Is that what you do?

Re insurance - the uk is bloody expensive. I have only 2 years NCB, and it sets
      me back some £720 (I've a Omega 2.5). I've also got a Polish Voyager (2.5), no
NCB, and it costs 1380zl (£240).
