La Haine/Hate by Kassovitz

Last night I saw the "La Haine" directed by Kassovitz. If you have the
opportunity to see it, don't miss it!

The movie was made in 1995 and basically foresaw what happened this year in
Paris. It is simply an impressive and powerful movie.

I haven't been lucky enough to see it.
I can't say I have much time for rioters, though. Mind you, France has a
strange relationship with Algeria due to their colonial exploitation and mass
murder (including their infamous, cold-blooded mass slaughter of Algerian
demonstators in Paris in the early 60s).
Funnily, just like many Irish-American IRA supporters were actually of Prod
stock (!!), many of the 'French-Algerian' rioters will have been of Harki
stock - the pro-French who had the choice of the suitcase or the coffin in '62.
Racism, alienation and other issues aside, Maghrebin youth is particularly
prone to street disorder because they spend so much time on the street, as
their parents don't allow young people to socialise at home. None of which, of
course, excuses thuggish violence from kids running wild ...

Of course, the causes are various, but what is great in this movie is that it is
not looking for causes: simply present 24 hours from the life of 3 guys from the
        banlieu.

Another great things is that there are no GOOD and BAD guys. There are just guys
who sometimes act right or wrongly.

did kassovits make anything as passionate later?
I recently saw 'Amen' in which he plays the main part...mixed feelings...

I haven't seem "Amen" yet, but will look for it. Based on what I've read about
            it, it seems interesting.

Definitely La Haine is well made.
