They've done it thensmile I'm glad of the success Poland had with this one. It
seems the richer countries have put the new countires needs first (?)
Also Angela allegedly gave something extra? I made little out of the PM's
press conference last night, I was so tired.

Anyway it seems to have gone according to plan. But reaaaaaaaaallly I can't
help but feel there is a catch there somewhere?

      Kazioapparently doesn't think so:

"Polish Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz, whose country will get 4bn
euros more aid than the UK had at first proposed, punched the air and
shouted "Yes! Yes!" when the deal was done. "

He evidently has his knowledge of western etiquette from the intensive reading
      of Dilbert cartoons.

We British are gonna use this cut to try to improve our EU relations, and that
could on the one hand be worth every penny - that depends on the goodwill of
      our partrners, though.

We have shown we are not just out for ourselves, let them show likewise.

And most of all, let's have proper accountability in Brussels. If those
walloons continue to be too flemmy phlegmatic to do it, we will van damn well
have to move Europe's centre to Londinium or Fortis Frankensteinensis.

He did not. He was sitting behind the desk at the press conference for the
(Polish) media when he did that. And he did it in the context of "I see myself
as a youg person/young at heart and when young people achieve something they
        say 'yes yes yes'".

You think so? I like Dilbert. Even if he does, good on himsmile

Improve? I didn't notice them to be that bad to be honestsmile There is a thoery
Tony did this to save his backside infront of his own nation. Somewhat of a
bluff it seems. Even if so, respectsmile

I don't think that was the case in the first place. Besides I think the Brits
have always been somewhat sentimental about Poland anywaysmile I'm glad this has
happened I'm sure it will help. I only hope the cash is used well and on time
and that we hear no more reports on 4%. As usual though, Giertych is running
around with those crazy eyes of his saying 'It's all wrong - we would have done
it better! I want to be in the opposition now!'.

smile)))) You think that will happen? I think it will practically impossible. It
is just too much money and too many bank accounts.

As far as Britian being in the EU goes, there was a fantastic episode of 'Yes
Minister' once, where someone explained exactly why the Brits are in the EU and
what their intentions are. i would have to find the script. It was preety funny
but I can't help thinking that 20 years down the line - it is (still) somewhat
        truesmile))))))))

It was Sir Humphrey of course.

I'll post the best part sometime - I've got the book.

          Fantastic series.

I remember watching that and laughing my head off. I think it was because it
            applies to Poles alsosmile

Sir Humphrey: "Minister, Britain has had the same foreign policy objective for
at least the last 500 years: to create a disunited Europe. In that cause we
have fought with the Dutch against the Spanish, with the Germans against the
French, with the French and Italians against the Germans, and with the French
against the Germans and Italians. Divide and rule, you see. Why should we
change now when it's worked so well?"
Jim Hacker: "That's all ancient history, surely."
Sir Humphrey: "Yes, and current policy. We had to break the whole thing [the
EEC] up, so we had to get inside. We tried to break it up from the outside, but
that wouldn't work. Now that we're inside we can make a complete pig's
breakfast of the whole thing: set the Germans against the French, the French
against the Italians, the Italians against the Dutch. The Foreign Office is
terribly pleased, it's just like old times."

              smile)))))))))

The whole series was wonderful (yes minister & yes prime minister). I've seen it
repeated a few times on BBC Prime over the past few months in their classic
comedy slot. I should tape it, but can't work out how.

True, but you've got to keep some traditions.
