How did they do that?! :)

" British police hunted for three men on Saturday who stole a huge bronze
Henry Moore sculpture worth up to 3 million pounds ($5.30 million) and a
spokesman said they feared the piece would be destroyed for scrap.

Police said the 3.5 metre long (11 ft 5.8 in) sculpture, "A Reclining
Figure", was stolen from the Henry Moore Foundation in Hertfordshire, north
of London, on Thursday night by three men who drove it away."

Now come on, maybe a collector wants it in his back garden? I've heard of
people stealing railway tracks or other stuff for scrap, but a statue of that
size?!

WARSAW (Reuters) - An 84-year-old Polish farmer who had never been further than
the next-door village snuck off to London to follow his dreams, but his plans
of a new life there didn't last long.

Without a word to his family, Ludwik Zon donned his Sunday best and rode off on
his bike to catch the bus and train to Warsaw, then flew off to London.

Worried officials who found him wandering around Heathrow got the Polish
consulate to take care of him. It arranged his passage home, to
      his chagrin.

"It's too bad I wasn't allowed to stay longer, because the people there have
got a wonderful life. I thought I might look about for a job. Here in Poland a
person hasn't got a future," the disgruntled pensioner told Saturday's daily
      Super Express.

Fed up with life at home in the small central town of Znin, he skimped on food
for years to save some $3000 from his meagre 600-zloty (104 pound) monthly
pension to execute his plan, he said.

His baffled family reported him missing.

"Granddad had never travelled farther than the neighbouring village," said
      granddaughter, Malgorzata Kocinska.

Zon knew no one in Britain and cannot speak a word of English, but it did not
      dent his enthusiasm for London.

"In my long lifetime no-one had ever been as polite to me as the English, and
who knows if I won't return," he said.

Thousands of younger Poles have had the same idea as Zon, moving to Britain for
      a new life and a better-paid job.

        Maggie,
By posting this you're reinforcing the negative stereotypes about Poles and
Poland, why don't you for once find some article about Poles in Britain, succes
        story?

Even the BBC in its weekly program the European journal has shown a piece about
successfull polish enterpreneur who's sells prefabricating housing units in UK.
The units where designed and manufactured in Poland!

        What a man!
This breaks all the stereotypes about old people and farmers. He had a goal and
the balls to aim for it.
His goal might have been a bit mad, but he'd probably been reading what the
Wyborcza says about London and started to believe it. Anyway, if you're over a
certain age (and under a certain age) you don't have to care what people think.

That having been said, if anyone fancies moving to Znin, there's a financial
analyst job going there for 5,000 PLN a month an accommodation, candidate must
be bilingual with English, and have been a financial analyst or similar before.

        See me for details.

Boy, it's pretty hard to sneak out with an 11 ft statue without being noticed.
Security alarm failed? They must have been flying out the door with it - I bet
      it looked funny! smile

The secret of successfully stealing something is not to let people know you're
      stealing it.
In the case of a small thing, you simply hide it so they don't know you've even
      got it, and look innocent.
When it comes to larger things, it's even simpler. If it's too big to hide, you
simply pretend it's yours, and ideally you should ask someone to help you carry
      it.

I liked it when someone (presumably with help) nabbed the rugby posts from my
        school.
If anyone is interested in Henry Moore, a visit to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park
is well worth it - and just off the M1, near Wakefield.
BTW, there is a budget line operating Warsaw-Leeds now. Civilisation arrives
        in Leeds at last!
