Sky TV - BBC 1

20.12.05, 11:52
If any of you remember those wonderful days when you could receive BBC TV,
well, I've got good news for you. Try channel Sky 958 at 18:00, and you'll
get BBC Channel Islands (and South-west). It was so good to watch the Six
O'Clock News again.
And being that part of the world, the news was all about little white
children putting on nativity plays. The shock news from St Helier was that
parking charges might go up.
We got 2 hours viewing before the picture started breaking up. To get a
decent picture, of course, you'd need an enormous dish - which would attract
burglars to your house ...

Not really! I know a guy who has 3 sattelite dishes on his block - and no
      problemssmile)))))
Anyway, it is nice when you find a channel that you have long missedsmile

        On his block?
        What does that mean?
        • chochise Re: Sky TV - BBC 1 20.12.05, 11:57
On his block of flats. You know, wieżowiec? smile))

            Different kettle of fish there.
Anyway, to receive BBC you need a truly humungous dish - too big to mount on a
wall - and it would ruin my garden.

What satellite package have you got?

I've the Cyfra basic, as I wanted some Italian channels and BBC / ITV.

The best 3 Italian channels have since disappeared, and I can only get BBC Prime
      & World.

        Sky
If you have somewhere to put a one metre satellite dish, and you have access to
a UK address then you can get a card. The package I have costs GBP 20 a month
and gives me Channels 4&5 plus a whole load of the usual sorts of channels you
get on these things - Sky Gold, Eurosport, TV Cinq, BBC Radio 2 & 4 etc. We
used to get BBC 1 (i), but they changed satellite. To pick up BBC TV properly
in Warsaw you need a ground-mounted satellite dish (3 metres I think).
Channel 5 is much better than it used to be, by the way.
I find it really soothing being able to listen to the Today Programme on Radio
4 as I'm munching on my morning muesli, and Classic FM as I'm wading my way
through the Saturday Telegraph. And then there's 'Just A Minute' with Nicholas
Parsons. I must sound like an old fogey!

There are curious goings on in Polish radio/TV. Radio Maria may be getting
          immunity as "nadawca spoleczny"

          wiadomosci.gazeta.pl/wiadomosci/1,53600,3077273.html
regulator rynku nie będzie mógł zabrać takiemu nadawcy koncesji, nawet jeśli
jego program zagraża "interesom kultury narodowej, bezpieczeństwa i obronności
państwa lub narusza normy dobrego obyczaju"

          Is this normal?

Invest in the biggest satellite dish you can afford smile

I'd rather be an old fogey enjoying Radio 4. My 17 year old laughs when 'Just
a Minute' is on - but then we're both in the car on the way to his football so
there's no escape for him smile

As far as I know it's always been a nadawca niby społeczny, but they're forcing
a new Broadcasting Bill through parliament to give them even more immunity. As
a supposedly "Catholic voice in your home" RM is already above the law, but
being independent they don't have to worry about what the church says either.

            > Is this normal?

            No. It's very, very sick.

            > Invest in the biggest satellite dish you can afford smile

            No, start stockpiling petrol bombs.
But on the lighter side, TV Trwam is available on all cable networks. You can
actually see moving pictures of the RM people, and they are just as creepy as
they sound :-0 My favourite programme is "Guess the Sexual Orientation of These
Presenters" which is on every day. All day smile

          An old fogey. Yeah!

I grew up with it a few years ago.

Today - absolutely. Nicholas Parsons - well.

Re the Dish - I've got a spare 80cm one that I bought in the UK that I hoped to
tune into Astra, but I can't get anything. I'm not sure if it's the dish, the
tuner, the wiring or what. I've been meaning to get an expert in to look at it,
but it's another of those 'aroundtoit' things.

I didn't use them, but the explanations are good

Radio Marya, for those of you who don't know, is run by an evil Catholic priest
with funding from an SS officer in South America. I'm not even making this up!!
I listened to it one day and I liked some of the religious aspects and music,
then it went on to say some rather naughty things about Jews ...
It has split the Catholic Church in Poland, and has caused much heated debate.
Generally, the hierarchy is against it but the little old ladies are for it.
I was happy to see the advert for it next to my church in Komorow has come
down - feel free to deface any adverts for Radio Marya you see - they are the
      scum of the earth.
