Polish White Pages

21.12.05, 23:36
I am sure I must be doing something wrong but I can't seem to find a decent
site with Polish White Pages. Some are down, some under construction and the
rest is so and so.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks smile

What are they? (I'm still doing blessed e-mails and I'm too lazy to look them
      up properly)

Sorry, I've tried internetowa "książka telefoniczna" / wersja komputerowa and
no luck, just like you said in the first post. There was a link to
Książka telefoniczna Warszawy 1938/39 ... and Książka adresowa Warszawy z 1854.
I'm beginning to think it doesn't exist on-line;if it exists then it doesn't
work, or if it works then I can't find it sad

                  You want numbers?
I'd like a telephone that doesn't get cut off.
Out where I live I have to make do with short-wave radio telephones as per
bongo-bongo jungle land. The only problem is that Woopsa or whatever the
company's called keeps on selling its rights to the frequencies it uses. They
cut us off once - without warning - and they're probably going to do the same
                  trick again soon.
Fortunately we've got an internet provider through a bongo-bongo land dish on
                  the roof.
No other telephone providers service my neck of the woods and the courts keep
on saying that, although it is a very naughty boy, Woopsa can carry on behaving
disgracefully towards its customers and illegally towards its competitors.

And I thought I was the only one that lived in bongo-bongo land!

We've got TP, no problem. But we've also got a Polish electricity company. And
every day (maybe an exageration) the areas supply goes on the blink for anything
from a few minutes to several hours.

Great when you're in the middle of somthing on the computer, or cooking, or the
                    lights fading outside.

I refused to pay the bill once, and they threatened to cut us off - battle lost
                    I was told.

                    Grrrrrr.

Polish utility company efficiency is one of the reasons I've got myself a
                      lovely open fireplace.
By the way, why is it Poles hide fires behind glass? It's like having safe
sex - sort of alright and pleasant and all that, but not what you'd opt for in
                      the ideal world.

Sorry to hear of your struggles in your neck of the woods. Ah, we don't know
how lucky we are in SE London. I just hope Uncle Davey can tap into his
contacts in the diplomatic circles to arrange for an emergency delivery of some
of the TV finest programmes to cheer you up in your hour of need. A boxed set
collection of 'One Foot in the Grave' and 'Grumpy Old Men' perhaps? You invite
russh to watch it with you without intermittent power cuts and he can let you

Blackheath, I wish. The dodgy bit down the hill away from the big smoke, along
what used to be Watling Street(and still is further down).
And I'm not lording it over anyone.

Have you seen Grumpy Old Men? It makes me laugh. Some clips here:

The same goes for Grumpy Old Women, I'm not quite their age but can identify
with quite a lot of what they are saying.

Well, that's a start, I suppose. I guess there really isn't anything out there.

How is Xmas preparation going? My brother-in-law has picked up the turkey today
(free range butter ball). Asked for one the size of a linebacker. X-mas dinner
is okay. I live for the toasted turkey sandwiches with stuffing, cranberries,
and mayo on brown. If that was the dinner, I would be delighted.Kids always
used to complain about the week after turkey repeats:

Mom, what's for dinner Boxing Day?
                Turkey
                Tuesday?
                Turkey.
                ehmm...I hate to ask....Wednesday??
                You got it!

Might you be able to find the number through international directory enquiries?

                  > How is Xmas preparation going?

Ha, we have a division of labour: I get everything ready for Christmas Eve, my
husband does Christmas dinner. He's collecting the turkey tomorrow and he can
be certain I won't be getting under his feet in the kitchen smile I might
contribute light touches like onion soup if we run out of barszcz and if there
                  is demand for it.
I've made an industrial quantity of bigos today (it's yummy even without any
red wine, I never know how much to put in and usually spoil it) the rest will
be done on the day. Still have to buy fish though but I've got the rest, I
                  think.
After Christmas we trek to visit my sister-in-law so we swap left overs; other
people's leftovers are always more interesting, even if it's still turkey. smile
Your turkey sandwiches sound scrumptious too smile

                    Hello Hannah,

                    > he can be certain I won't be getting under his feet in the kitchen smile

You've got it made, Hannah! How did you "train" your hubby to stay in the
kitchen that long? I can't keep mine IN there longer than 5 minutes! And
his "contribution" is usually to deplete the fridge and pantry resorcues.
Instead you will find him watch the NFL (the cheerleaders, that is), NFL or
                    golf.
Barszcz...I making it too smile (xmas eve at home) but I am the onle one that eats
it and sometimes husband will dip into it only because he doesn't want to hurt
my feelings. However he loves Polish BIGOS so I have made enough for the
                    Russian Army, like you.

"It was the day before Xmas
                    not a creature was stirring,
                    not even a mouse..."

                    They used electric blender! smile

What sort of fish do you guys have for Xmas? I don't think it would be a carp?
My husband thinks the word "carp" sounds almost obscene...Boy, it's one ugly
                    looking fish, isn't it?

                    All the Best,
                    don't work too hard!

                    smile

                      > You've got it made, Hannah! How did you "train" your hubby to stay in the
                      > kitchen that long?

There wasn't that much training involved, luckily for me he enjoys cooking.
Unluckily for me he has some autistic traits (has to do things in a certain
way) so it's easier to divide the tasks where our styles are not compatible eg
I clear up as I go along vs he creates a 'bombsite' when he's in the kitchen uncertain

What fish? I actually remember carp swimming in our bath at home in Poland when
I was little and feeding it on bread until the day of execution. How did they
use to kill it? A blow with a rolling pin? (Sorry if it's too graphic.)
Wouldn't need to do it now but carp is pretty tasteless, isn't it? Well, it was
when I cooked it once upon a time and it was fiddly and the bones were a
nuisance. No more carp. I like your husband's instinct in language, still
remember his marmite and termites smile
I'm opting for simplicity and convenience with fish. Got three types of fish:
cod, monkfish and sea bass, will chuck some seasoning and herbs at them, wrap
each in foil and shove on a tray into the oven. Another tray of vegetables
roasting on a different shelf and I'm done. Not too sure about timing, that's
                      an element of surprise smile

How many people will you be feeding this Christmas? I seem to remember you have
quite a crowd, but I'm not sure. There's only 4 of us but as I don't do things
like bigos, barszcz or 'salatka jarzynowa' at any other time, now when I do
make them I make quite a lot so it lasts longer! And silly kids roll up their
eyes and don't touch the stuff! Are you in your new flat/apartment/condo yet?

                      Have a lovely Christmas!

I got back late from the cinema and haven't noticed the time! Help, my fine
tuned schedule is going to slip wink
