..for Christmas?
I got an exercise bike, as I mentioned in another thread, and I also got the
illustrated version of Bill Bryson's "A short History of Nearly Everything".
This is a truly impressive book which will grace my bathroom for many years.
It is available from the front windows of most of the American Bookstore
chain in Warsaw at the moment, and the price tag of 169 PLN is, as usual,
cheaper than the 30 English quid tag on the inside cover.
That's something worth remembering, by the way, that if you buy British books
in Poland, they are not covered by the "net book agreement" and, since the
American bookstore chain also features all the most popular UK titles, you
can make a significant saving buying there, if you have people coming over
who normally buy their books in the UK (I believe there are still one or two
real bookshops left over there, in amongst the WH Smithses and wot not) then
you can always drop them the hint to try here first, as they could save about
20%.
That was an aside, which as ever will no doubt totally hi-jack this thread
into a discussion of books and bookshops, but to at least close on topic,
what did you get for Christmas?
Other than the lovely smiles on your kids and grandkids faces, that goes
without saying, even though, of course, it's the best present of the lot...
