How was the beer?

So, how did it go last night? Did you guys have a good time? I've seen people
make funeral arrangements faster than your beer-get-together.
I hope it went fine.

I for one enjoyed it, and would like to thank Dave for his hospitality, and
      Varsavian for his company.

I would also like to apologise to Dave's wife for having to support us
      (especially me with zero Polish).

I hope there will be more get-togethers.

And where did you say you lived? In Poland? How do you manage to buy your
groceries, by pointing and waiving your hands?

Well, you did say you needed to make more friends in Warsaw - and since you
work till 22:00 on a Friday night I'm not surprised that's not turning out too
            easy for you!

Our doors are always open, and you'll get an invite to the next one.

You'd be surprised. If you lived in Poland you would see just how things are!

              Quicker than you are, actually.

Partly, but also it seems that they are very normal, hospital people.

It is by the grace of someone that most of the people I meet are not like you.

        The pleasure was all mine.

My wife enjoyed it, but she has a very low ability to stay in smokey places, so
that's why she went off with Adam. Hopefully wink.

She'd like to go again if we pick a different venue, as in maybe a home venue.
Now that we know each other, next time we can do it at one of our homes. I'm
open to invite. Better for chatting in the end. That place got louder than I
        thought it would.

        > I hope there will be more get-togethers.

        Count on it.

I am happy that you had a good time. Got back to Warsaw only this morning...

Dave, thanks for your calls and definitely count me/us in for the next meeting.
My wife also has low tolerance on smoky places, so I guess Ania would make a
          good "team" with your wife!

Glad you got back safely. Pity we couldn't see you again.

It's always tougher in the winter, because people can't use the outside, and so
            the smoke is more concentrated.

That reminds me to tell you how impressed I am with your "artist's eye" as a
photographer. Are these scanned from film shots or were they taken with a
            digital?
            • bartis_ervin Re: Thanks Dave 14.01.06, 13:06

The photos are in fact scanned negatives and we use a Canon camera.
One of these days, we'll get a digital Canon or Nikon. They are not cheap toys,
but in the long run will save us some money.

The photos on the blog are good (some of the more or some of them less), but we
used up many films to make a couple of good photos. On the other hand, they are
nothing in comparison to the photos that I saw at World Press Photo.

Thinking of last night, one of the highlights was the way Varsovian's eyes lit
up when I asked if he wanted to join me in putting vinegar on his chips.
