FLIPPOM for January 2006!

26.01.06, 18:15

As a new feature, in this thread I'm inviting everyone to nominate and vote
for their favourite post here this January, of the 800 plus posts that have
appeared here in that time.

The idea of this, along with the Rules, are set out on
www.usenetposts.com/flippom.htm , which for now will also be the
repository of all the posts of the month.

Please give your nominations and votes by the end of the 3rd of February!

Hope you all enjoy this and get some fun out of it!

      Well. I'll start then.

As I said before I have to vote for this one:

      forum.gazeta.pl/forum/72,2.html?f=29887&w=35624170&a=35636288
      Sums it up very well.

I must say, Waldek really trashes this forum sad
The only reason I can think of you keeping him here, is to get stats up on
posts, as he starts the most threads. However the qualisty of those well - in
Poland you say 'nie ilość się liczy ale jakość'.

      No other reservations from moismile

I suspect the reason for the "Best Post" contest is so that folk start writing
clever stuff with astutely ironic observations, mind-blowing statistics and
Oscar Wilde quotes, instead of just "piss off Waldek, you're talking out your
        arse again".

Well, mainly I was thinking it would be a bit of fun and become part of the
culture and traditions of our Group, but if it also has the side effect of
increasing quality, then I will be the last one to complain, that's for sure.

Thanks for that - we have our first nomination!

Alright, I won't deny it. I am always pleased to see a bit of "frequency"
        going.

        > However the qualisty of those well - in

The thing is, when assessing forums and the success thereof, "ilosc" is an
objective measure, and "jakosc" is a subjective one.

If we look at "spamforum" in this section, it outstrips everyone else on volume
but obviously has the worst signal to noise ratio of any of the forums on the
whole site, and I don't regard it as something I would be proud to emulate.
However, if we look at just about any of the other forums between here and the
top, as far as numbers of posts is concerned, the only fair way to determine
quality is to see how well they reach their objective.

I'll write more on what Waldek does with relation to that here on another
        occasion.

Thanks Maggie. I hope you will pick a nomination.

I'm nominating this one from today, where Ianek is answering Marimax:

          > You don't "have to" listen to crap music, you don't "have to"
          > eat crap food. Personally I would never eat in McDonalds,
          > partly because the food sucks, partly for moral reasons,
          > partly because it's just such unimaginable obciach and
          > komercja. I can cook, I know where to go for a good pizza,
          > if I'm hungry and in a hurry I head for my favourite bar

          > Britney Spears or Mandaryna, simply turn the dial on your

          > Boycot major record labels. Buy cd's in small independent
          > shops. The more people ignore commercialism, the quicker
          > it'll die.

          >> Big corporations control the markets and you have no choice.

          > They control markets, but they don't control you,
          > unless you let them.

That makes I believe three nominations so far. Feel free either to nominate one
or vote for one of the existing nominations.
          • usenetposts Re: My nomination 01.02.06, 16:44
We have 2 more days according to the rules to make nominations and vote on Post
            of the Month for January.

At the moment there are three nominations and no other votes, which means three
            candidates with one vote each.

If there are only single vote nominations or there is a tie for any other
reason on midnight 3rd (going into the 4th) then the first vote given after
that deadline will be the casting vote.

            I think that's fair.
            • usenetposts Re: My nomination 05.02.06, 20:50
Please can someone who hasn't voted or nominated vote for any of the three
posts so that I can put this to bed for the month?

I have to say I was hoping for a better reaction to this idea, but obviously
not everything I come up with is gonna meet with everyone's enthusiasm. I'll
give the idea another go at the end of Feb, and then I'll turn it in if there's
              no great interest then.
