More sabre rattling from the mad Mullahs...

28.01.06, 14:21

According to the Telegraph in

tinyurl.com/9opej
The mad Mullahs are reminding us that they have 2000 km range ballistic
missiles and they are not afraid to use them.

I used the standard windows graphics function on the google map of Iran and
neighbours to see who is in range of that
sabre-rattle and who isn't.

See www.usenetposts.com/iranrange.JPG for details. The pink splodge on
Russia shows the location of Moscow, which I make to be just in range. A
couple of percent of Polish territory is also in range, but that part is
quite lowly populated, and therefore unlikely to be a target.

Ervin, sorry, my friend, but Romania and some of the best bits of Hungary are
in range.

The whole nuclear mallarchy at the moment is very strange indeed.
I don't think many understand the seriouseness of it all. And now it seems that
Iran is really overstepping the mark. But will anyone have the courage to do
      anything about it?
      Is WWIII around the corner?

I'm far from sure we're not already in it.

What would be sensible is for us to take out their capability as far as we can,
and then take control of the North West of the country to move back their
opportunity to strike deep into Europe. However, in order to be sure thay
couldn't hit Europe at all, we would have to block access to the Caspian, and
looking at the map I'm not sure how doable that is. I doubt it could be done
without taking control of Teheran into the bargain.

Hmmm.. indeed my dear Transylvania is in range. But I am sure that our friend,
the Ayatollah knows that if he does something to the Hargita mountains, the
seclars will come after him with axes. The axe might be a primitve weapon, but
      it is efficient.

I guess now the US will think twice before using the letsbombthesh*toutofthem
      technique.

It is interesting to get the view of Iranian bloggers on the issue:
