Why don't you come to Warsaw?
    • waldek1610 Re: i am so bored here in poland.... 30.01.06, 06:54
You definitevly could not make a worst choice in picking the region of Poland
to hunt for a job. Didn't you make some research before you came to Poland?
Silesia is perheaps one of the poorest regions in Poland due to the collapse of
the coal mineing and other heavy industries, the unemployment is one of the
      highest in Poland.

You should try Warsaw, Cracow perheaps Poznan, Wroclaw...

To be fair, she didn't say whether it was upper Silesia or lower Silesia, and
also the coalmining sector has been picking up over the last few years, meaning
that the Katowice region is actually a growth area now. It may not compete with
the capital, but it wasn't actually such a bad place to try.

            Whatever.
I just assumed you'd never been in Silesia because you've never been in any of

              This sounds contradictory.

Waldek you smoke too much crack!
Wtf are you talking about? Since when Silesia is the poorest region? Your
blabling about unemployment is bs! Of course lots of folks lost their jobs, but
still unemployment rate is better than in other regions of Poland, and most of
the big companies that finally invest in Poland, build their factories in Upper
Silesia. Look for some statistics on the internet, and then compare Silesia to
        Poland B.

        Waldek, you are not nice...

Have you already rogotten that Wroclaw (my hometown) is also situated in a
reagon called Silesia, just for a differende it's Lower Silesia?

So if you write about the Silesia and mean the Upper Silesia you should
emphasize that. Because otherwise you put the whole (huge and very deffrenciated
in all ways) regon in a bad light.

But, yes, teacher79, you should try comming to Wroclaw. People are pretty open
there and for sure you could make friends here.

          Good words.

What does the "aidah yom shemach kal hayom" (apologies for any mistakes, as my

      • bartas83 Re: i am so bored here in poland.... 05.02.06, 20:40
Silesia isn't one of the poorest regions in Poland. on the contrary, coal mining is on the increase and this industry is flourishing these days. I live in Poznan, and from my own experience I know that native teachers are sought-after so get packing!

You've got friends now, on Foreigners living in Poland.

If you found it easier in Warsaw, maybe you could come back up to Warsaw and
give Silesia another try in a couple of years?

What was your diploma in and what jobs did you try to get? If people
are "afraid" of it, I guess your diploma was in dentistry, right?
      • missus.c Re: i am so bored here in poland.... 30.01.06, 17:25
So, it is not Poland you are bored with, but life in general.
I'm sure that part of Poland is not THAT bad. Unless you maybe live in a remote
        village somewhere?
Surely, there must be clubs and pubs you can go to. You just have to make the
        effort and GO OUT there.
I had a friend who lived in Katowice last year and he loved it!
        • ejmarkow Re: i am so bored here in poland.... 30.01.06, 18:57
          Missus.c,

Haha! smile Your interesting and fictional statement (below) got my immediate
attention! I'm having a blast here in my 'remote village', much better than the
city life. Please remember, I came from New York City specially to live in this
remote village, and I'm loving it. The night life is great, and there are
several small cities very close to me with many things to keep one occupied.
Where else can you wake up in the morning, breath fresh air, take a walk in
your own forests, go mountain biking, without the hassle of city life.
Certainly, not in a big city. Perhaps, in a park in Warsaw, but that just
doesn't duplicate the nice life in a village. Sure, the people are simpler here
and not as sophisticated as the residents of a large city. That's
understandable. It's the quality of life factor that I find important. On the
extreme minus side, unemployment is very high here. You can, however, find a
nice job as an English teacher in any village around here if you really wanted
          to.

Silesia's OK, depends where you are.
I've lived in Katowice for 12 years, it doesn't smell as bad as it used to and
unemployment's lower than in the rest of Poland. I know that in Zabrze and
Bytom for example things are really bad, though.
They tend to be suspicious of my diploma, too, because it's Scottish and
written in Latin, so I just smile innocently and lie with my funky foreign
      accent.
Where are you and what do you do?

"Boredom is an internal state of mind", eh? That's a good, pithy phrase.

How about "boredom must not only be done, it must be seen to be done?"

        or "No taxation without boredom?"

or "there are only three certainties in life; death, taxation, and boredom"

or "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity and Boredom!"
