why polish dont try other rhytms apart from R&B?

02.02.06, 10:41
i just wonder why polish people dont try to listen to latin music and not
only american one, because it is good to know new things and maybe to know
how do you dance for example reggaeton, vallenato, salsa, merengue. it would
be a good choice and why not, a multicultural experience

You got a good point right there! I'm sure there's small group of music
enthisiasts conoeseurs...that acutally listen to original latin, brazilian,
jamaican and other regional music but again this requires more developed
musical taste....Meantime great majority of youth in Poland listens to
      polish....rap and hip hop....it's the shame...white monkeys

I suppose that poles rarely listen to other music as it is quite difficult to
get the original piece of music here.
maybe you haven't notice, but(!) there is now a trend for reading latin and
south american writers... and salsa is REALLY popular among youths in bigger
        cities of polandsmile

This statement is just a stereotypical view. Many Poles listen to
rock, progressive rock, latin, jazz and smooth jazz music.Only mass media such as
TV has been promoting recently such genres as hip hop-in fact popular mainly
amongst teenagers(12-16).Actually, now we have a great revival of interest in
latin culture-both at universities and in culture, language, movies, music, dances
and so on.I've never listened to rap music and I don't know anyone at my
department who listenes to this kind of music(I'm 24.On my year I have 100
students and I know most of them personally-mainly rock fans, few classical music
        lovers).
The only hip hop artists I like are Fisz,Verba-few songs and female duo Parę
        Słów-for their voices mainly.I like jazz,rock,celtic
music, gothic, folk, latin, chillouts and grunge. And in my opinion the majority of
Poles loves rock music-this has been so far the only dominant genre I observed
in every age group as long as I can remember-both among my parents and their
friends as well as among my classmates, friends and so on.

right now im living in POZNAŃ and i havent felt that latin influence in here,
and if anybody of you knows poznan could you please tell me where do i find
latin roots (pubs, disco, latin reunions or something like this)
          • bob75rob1 Re: why polish dont try other rhytms apart from R 03.02.06, 10:51
I'm surprised to hear that you have never heard of e.g. Malta Festival when
            living in Poznan.
            www.malta-festival.pl/en/historia/
Beuena Vista Social Club were main guests there couple of times.

Coming back to what Polish people listen to I don't agree that HH and R&B are
the only type of music here. Don't understand why should it be so obvious to
listen to latin music either. I don't have anything against it but we represent
            radically different culture.
Remember also that till 1989 there were 2 TV channels and 3 radio stations
only - all state-owned institutions. The only source of what's going on at the
international music stage where "Lista Przebojów Programu Trzeciego" (Top list
of 3rd radio station). That's why today's generation of 30's and 40's were
grown mostly on Polish music bands from the 80's. There was a time of prime for
            rock & punk/rock bands here.
When talking about hip hop and R&B - these types are popular with twenties and
under. They are just followers of what is the most influential and trendy
            nowadays.

ctually what i mean is not that is AN OBLIGATION to listen to it, im just
trying to give like an ALTERNATIVE. and i know there are different cultures but
dont you know how interesting is when you share culture stuff??

Visited several clubs while in Warsaw, and, oh boy, these out-of-the-beat,
aggressive moves gave us something to laugh about..Tried and danced with one of
the broads there...She couldn't move her hips if you paid her..After few
minutes she ran off the dance floor embarassed or something. Came back with a
whole bunch of gfs, surrounded us and tried to keep up...Well, whatever..Hooked
up with some girl from Turkey instead. Turned out she was natural at it, so we
partied till the place closed down..Got her digits, but didn't bother calling
as it was close to my departure day. Later.

Huh? So you dance to a hip-hop?
I know you can effectively shoot to a hip-hop, depending on the rate of fire of
              device used…
              Ps.
Give a Turkish girl a call.

Yeah, yeah whatever...I can dance to almost anything, but your dope flavored

It is for the best. Since you could not cope with simple techno, you would not
be much of use to her…anywhere. Actually, sounds like knowing you could qualify
her for honor killing. Lucky girl, then.

Reality check is something you are in desperate need of.
Think about it, you can save a life by not befriending someone.

there is A LOT of good polish music of all different kinds, not only those lousy bastards trying to be britney spears or badass gangstas you can see on TV and hear in most popular radio-stations... it's just not promoted in media, so it may be kinda hard to find, if you don't know where to look...

and as for latin music - kraków has been all crazy about salsa for at least a year now. and i guess it's not only here. just keep looking, i'm sure you will find something soon. smile

        Hi there,

I'm polish and I also have to say that not all polish listen to easy going
gringo's stuff ( from the other hand unfortunatelly it's true that most of the
radios play just popular american music, i foud one exception there is one local
radio they've started playing a bit of regeaton lately)

        BTW
Me gusta reggaeton, vallenato, salsa y merengue mucho smile
