Is this going a bit too far?

I understand that Mr Jurgiel wanted to make a sacrifice for God in lending a
car to the prominent Conservative Catholic Broadcaster.

I would suggest that he takes an example from the life of David in 2 Samuel 24.
David wants to make a sacrifice to god, and offers to buy a threshing floor,
and the owner, another godfearing King, says "take what you like and offer it"
but David says "nay but I shall surely buy it of thee for a price, neither
shall I offer sacrifices to the lord my God of that that will cost me nothing".

It's all very well sacrificing OTHER PEOPLE's money, in this case taxpayers
money, but the example of David shows that we ought to give our OWN sacrifices
      that cost US something.

Had Jurgiel given the Broadcaster his OWN car to use for the week and walked
home or paid for the bus from his own pocket, then not only would he be in the
clear with the government and the public, but even the Church would have mor
reason to be pleased with him, rather than put to this embarrassment.

I know people who would happily lend Rydzyk a car for a week - their own
private car, not paid from the public purse. Rydzyk does not need to be ferried
around at the taxpayers' expence. His flock presumably ensure anyway that he
never needs this, as it would be a disgrace to them.
