Going back to Bono

21.02.06, 13:18
The hero of all eggheads, is going to donate one of his guitar to benefit
Brazil's Zero Hunger campaign.
What a sacrifice.
How can he afford it
Why don't we start raising money for a new guitar for him
    • bartis_ervin Re: Going back to Bono 21.02.06, 15:39

I wouldn't totally agree with that.

It's not about money. Bono is good "salesperson" and unfortunately, human rights
need to be "sold". Whether he sells his guitar, writes a song about Aung San Suu
Kyi or projects the Universal Declaration of Human Rights during U2 concerts, he
does a good job. (now I don't want to write about Data.org, which is an
excellent advocacy project founded by Bono)

It is far from me to defend the Gateses (I use only one Microsoft product), but
they gave away more money than any organisation or state in the world. You could
say: "So what? He is the richest man in the world!" Well you would be right, but
besides giving away much money, he invested his time and energy to build an
efficient system of distributing this money. So, not just he gave away a huge
amount of money, but he did it in the most efficient way.

Bono and the Gateses are not for wishful thinking and they don't appeal to the
guilt in my heart: I credit them for introducing business-like techniques in the
relief/development world. And they couldn't do any better.
From my own personal experience, I can tell you that some UN agencies are not
more efficient than some second hand company in Mikstat.

This year Czech Republic will give 100 times more money for development aid than
Poland. When in the Sejm they were just reducing the amount of the aid until
there was barely anything left, I didn't hear any Edyta Gorniak or
      Green-Hair-SamiSwoi-Michal protesting.

On the other hand, I think many economists/accountants agree with me: it was
great to have Angelina Jolie in Davoswink Economy is becoming sexywink

Very good post by Ervin. By the way, everyone, don't forget to click a few
times a week on the 'pajacyk' at the top of every single page of the gazeta
forums. It costs you nothing, and PAH gets money for it.

Just leave Bono alone. Maybe he's not the best singer but U2 definitely is the
best rock band there ever was. The real band! These guys have been playing and
making good records together for more than 20 years. They know how to rock!

It's true that U2 have never been the best rock band ever, even 20 years ago
when they were good. But the fact that so many groups now copy their sound
proves that they're popular and (sadly) influential.
So maybe someone out of Coldplay will pay a million pounds for the guitar and
finance a huge amount of fishing rods for Africans.

That's not just my opinion. And who do you listen to? O-zone?

          > WHAT A JOKE.

          I've heard many better ones.

            Wow! You know O-zone!
They are one of the best selling exports of Republic of Moldovasmile

Last summer I had a shock: I heard a couple of Polish teenagers singing an
            O-zone song in Romanian...

              ervin,

do you have the link to that? There was a clip of this kid singing the song in
              front of his computersmile))
              • bartis_ervin Re: Going back to Bono 22.02.06, 21:18

No, I saw these kids singing on the street.

But I do remember that I saw a short funny video with a guy singing an O-zone
song. It was hillarious!!! I think I saw it on CNN. Have to check on that. If I
find it somewhere I will send the link to you.

                    Germans, eh?

What a sense of humour they do have.

I am glad you found that one, Dave. On your usenetpost I sent a link with the
same thing but for some reason you guys couldn't open it. That's the one! I
don't understand German but I am sure his comments are also pretty funny!
We have a few shows like that. One is an older show called "Smile, you are on
Candid Camera" ( with Susanne Sommers...in her 60's now but with the body of a
teenager) and the other one is from Montreal's Comedy Channel. Those
Montrealers can be quite ingenious when it comes to practical jokes.
                      ex.
a guy is walking down the street, he's throwing out his ice cream wrapper. A
hand pops out of the garbage can and grabs him. You have about 10 people do the
same thing one after another and you watch heir reactions.
I don't know about some of these people but I think I would get a bloody heart
attack. Some people laugh, some get scared and some run away and call the
police. I remember the little kid...his curiosity got the best of him, he got
on his tippy toes and bravely looked into the bin. Then he pulled the wrapper
out of the guys hand, gave him this evil look full of disgust and contempt and
                      walked away.
