Pushy Pete dead!

06.03.06, 23:36
Our oldest tropical fish (bullhead) is dead. We called him Pushy Pete. He
was known for his little antics like "let's nip at your fins and steal your
food".

Pushy Pete passed away sometime last night. Service this Friday at Our Mother
of the Weeping Bullhead church in Vancouver. Cash in lieu of seaweed.
He didn't leave much in his will. He had a little stock in "Captain
Highliner" and a few bucks in the "Bullhead Bank of Canada".
No relatives as far as I know.
He will be terribly missed.

I hate to split hairs telling you this, but bullheads are not tropical, they're
      temperate.

No problem Dave...tell me anything you want.
Pushy Pete thrived in his tropical tank. Those guys are highly tolerant of warm
and low-oxygen environments. He lived a long and happy life.
        I miss you Pushy.

          Picture?
          • kylie1 Re: Pushy Pete dead! 07.03.06, 23:31
Yes, in my camera, Dave. I will make sure I will ask my brother-in-law for the
proper name of that fish (Latin OK?) He gave it to me on my birthday. We called
him "bullhead" because he always stayed at the bottom of the tank. Are you
            always that serious?
Now, a little prayer for Pete would be greatly appreciated. Would you mind? I
hope he can safely make it into White Light...

I thought you were actually talking about a bullhead, Ictalurus nebulosus. I've
got a whole bunch of them. When they got big I released half of them.

              Yes. I'm extremely straight-faced.

I'm afraid Protestants don't pray for the dead, Kylie. Nothing I can do will
change his eternal fate now. But God is exceeding merciful. It is written "the
Righteous man hath regard for the life of his beast, but the tender merciesof
              the wicked are cruel".

I am happy to pray for existing fish in hobbyists' aquaria, though. May God
look after them better than the owners often do.

Dave, Pete was a Bala shark. I tried to find pictures that would look like him
but the ones I found don't look exactly like Pete. My little Pete was only 2
inches long and all black. He did have distinct shark features along his upper
                fins.
                www.fishlore.com/Pictures/Profiles/BalaShark.jpg
That would be pretty close if the fish was entirely black. I am not sure if my
brother in law has got the name right. The features are very similar though.

Now, that I know more about Pete, I am ready to put him on the front page of
                The Obit.

Aha! Now I know you had a Morulius chrysophekiadon!

                  or

                  thaichinaquarium.com/all%5CBLACK%20SHARK.JPG
                  This is him, right?

By the way interesting about the copyright on those two photos, isn't it? Two
separate entities seem to be claiming the right to the same photo! I sense
                  litigation in the offing!

I used to have one, (a Morulius that is, not pending copyright case, touch
wood) and pushy is a very good description for them. I wouldn't say no to
another. I had to give mine to a fine aquarist who would look after him when I
                  got my Russia job.

                    yep, you are right!

Thank you, Dave. That's my Pete but a little thinner that the ones you've shown
                    me...most likely a bit younger.
He was pushy until bigger fish got introduced and they started to nibble at his
fins. Shark or no shark, size still matters I guess...

I didn't have a clue you are familiar with tropical fish or I would have asked
                    you!

                    smile

I don't write about them as much as I might.

I think you should go straight to Riverview (formerly known as Asondale Hospital

            it's "essondale" marimax.

On second thought, if we make it into "Ass-ondale"or "Ass-on-board", I bet
could get a bed freed up just for you real soon.

I thought he was referring to the fantastic wellness center, state-of-the-art
gym and swimming pool on the 43rd and 44th floors of the Warsaw
Intercontinental Hotel. That would have been an exellent recommendation - just
the right place to work out all the stresses of a hard day at the office, and
generous corporate discounts are available, if several people join from one
company and stay members for 6 months.

But I don't remember a Hospital ever being there, though.

                I don't think so Dave.
Since my fall out with Maggie, I have been receiving strange messages from
certain individuals on this board. Isn't it funny how this is happening now and
not before? In fact, I was totally expecting it and I am not surprised.

And you two were such good friends.

                  Don't you think it's a pity?

We have never been friends, Dave. I just stood for the principle that I thought
should apply to anyone...be it Maggie, you or Joe Blow. I think my emotions got
the best of me while I certainly should have considered who I was standing up
                    for.
It certainly was a learning experience for me.
