Freedom of S...ch!

On the Kuba W. prog last week, Kazimiera Sz. did an imitation of an annoying
person from Radio Ma Ryja.
The girl is 18 and has a high-pitched voice, and when praying she uses the
same semi-musical intonation priests use. It's difficult to imitate someone
without using their voice, so Kazimiera Sz. imitated this voice.
Ms Sz. unfortunately did not know that this girl, Madzia, is handicapped, and
when she found out she apologised. Madzia accepted her apologies, and as a
Christian forgave her.
The 4th Reichpublic is not so Christian and does not forgive.
Polsat has been fined a million zloties (that's new zloties) for this non-PC
act. This morning, they interviewed one of the PiSsers on Radio 3, and he
said the punishment was scandalous. He said the fine, for offending the
religious feelings of someone who was not offended, should have been much
higher.

In essence what is offensive is fining someone for offending or upsetting
someone else and then putting the money in your own pocket.

I understand about not turning this girl's cheek for her just because she was
willing to turn her own other cheek, but when it means that money will change
hands and someone unrelated to the victim will be the only beneficiary, then we
      are in a sick situation.

Polshat should simply refuse to pay the fine, get their broadcast licence
revoked, then broadcast anyway, and then go to prison for their convictions.

People talk about the freedom of the press, but freedoms are won only by
      fighting for them.

Either Mr Solorz Zak will have to engage in civil disobedience now, or he will
have to take his problem to the eUtropian Onion.

Radio Maryja is not directly implicated this time, but the actions from the
Polish regulatory body taken against Polsta, where so many breaches against the
law by RM have gone unpersecuted - are downright scandalous.
So this has gone too far. I quite seriously think of organising a demonstration
before Radio Maryja. I am convinced thousands of people are outraged and the
whole idea only needs a spark.
A clash is imminent and I think Poland needs it.

          • ejmarkow The Media in Poland 24.03.06, 20:24
To be fair, from what every neutral objective observer could notice, the
majority of the media here in Poland basically leans to the left, is very
liberal, strongly supports SLD, even has potent communist roots, and enjoys
frequent attacks on the Catholic church. The few 'Catholic' media outlets,
given the chance, will counter-attack the left owned media. So, here in Poland
we have a paradox...the country is probably the most Catholic in Europe, and
yet, the largest media outlets are mostly controlled by left liberals. So, it's
quite normal for the left and right controlled media to constantly attack one
other. With the recent power struggle in the Sejm, and the victorious 'right'
now in power, the 'right versus left' battle has seemingly reached a sort of
equilibrium. It's quite interesting to see both sides slashing at one another.
How bloody will it get? Time will tell. smile

But the so-called liberal media in Poland would always say how excellent the
old pope's health was, even though this was usually accompanied by pictures of
the poor man struggling hard even to move.
And the godless, lefty Western papers were generally full of admiration for the
fact that a man so clearly in pain showed such determination. I, personally, am
not a great fan of the papacy (to put it mildly), but did have great respect
for his courage and willpower, and the sycophancy of the Polish media disgusts
              me.

Apart from that, in any normal country people like Jankowski and Rydzyk would
have been torn apart by newshounds long ago, and stories about priests
molesting little boys or school catechists beating children would be on the
front pages of the papers, and not hidden away as a couple of lines in the
              regional supplements.

'Fakty i Mity' and 'NIE' wouldn't be full of stories about drink-driving
priests and the church's dubious land acquisition deals if these things weren't
              ignored by the mainstream press.

I love the interjection, especially when used the way the Pythons did:

X (winking and prodding his barely known interlocutor): "That's a nice pair of
              milk jugs, eh? Eh? Eh?"

There is a phrase almost everyone in Poland, from the lefties to the liberals to
the press to the cardinals, has been repeating like a mantra: 'something must be
      done' (about Radio Maryja).
Well, nothing has been. Ojciec Rydzyk, guilty of an open embezzlement of funds,
laughs in the face of our society and the church authorities, enjoying political
support from the current govt. I think the situation is ripe for a more radical
      outcry.

      Dear usenetposts!

Thank you a thousand times for leading me to this sketch; I downloaded it from
the net and now it's my favourite!

Pleasure. I recently rewatched the whole of "And now for something completely
different" so it was at the top of my mind.
