It's a British invasion, then :)))

Na weekendy do naszego kraju przylatuje coraz więcej młodych Brytyjczyków.
Zamiast zwiedzać, wolą bawić się w naszych klubach

Piątkowy wieczór w warszawskim klubie "Lewel". Miejsca przy barze okupuje
Kris z kolegami.

Warszawy, Bydgoszczy i Gdańska. Brytyjczyków jest tym więcej, im liczniejsze
są na polskim niebie tanie linie lotnicze. To dlatego w ub. roku z Wysp
przyjechało do nas 345 tys. turystów. - O 40 proc. więcej niż przed rokiem -
mówi Tomasz Dziedzic z Instytutu Turystyki. - W tym roku odwiedzających
będzie jeszcze więcej.

- Popularnością cieszy się zwłaszcza urządzanie wieczorów kawalerskich i
panieńskich - zauważa Eryk Kłopotowski, rzecznik prasowy SkyEurope. -
Brytyjczycy lecą 20-osobowymi ekipami. Wszyscy są np. przebrani w koszulki z
napisami w stylu "wieczór Tom'a". Wygląda to zabawnie - dodaje.

Na brytyjskiej modzie poza liniami lotniczymi zarabiają też firmy
organizujące imprezowiczom czas. Jedną z nich jest STAGPARTY.PL. - Wiemy,

To
są na ogół piwosze, którzy robią spore zamieszanie - mówi Michał Milowicz,
aktor i jeden z właścicieli warszawskiego klubu Maska.

The British invaders are learning polish, too. From "Hello" to "condom".
“What’s your name” is not popular.

and more...give me 10mins and i'll have the article translated and posted below.

More and more young Brits are flying to our country for the weekend. Rather
than sightseeing, they prefer to have fun in our clubs.

Friday night in Warsaw club "Lewel". Chris and his friends are at the bar.
There are nine of them, they have just flown in and come for their first beer.
Their plan is simple: they will drink and dance the whole weekend, because
Chris is getting married. A typical British "stag party" lasts a few days.
They're in Warsaw for the first time, they know little about Poland, but they
like it. - The flights are cheap, alcohol too, and the girls are beautiful -
smiles Mark from Scotland. - Trips to Prague and Riga no longer appeal, too
commercial. Poland is different, here everything is new - he admits.

Young islanders aged between 25 and 35 most often head to Krakow,
Warsaw, Bydgoszcz and Gdańsk. The greater number of cheap airlines fly to
Poland, the more British there are. That's why last year 345,000 tourists
visited us from the British Isles - 40% more than in the previous year -
says Tomasz Dziedzic from the Institute of Tourism. - This year there will be
        even more visitors.

        - Particularly popular is the organisation of stag and hen nights - points out
Eryk Kłopotowski, Press Officer of SkyEurope. - The British fly in groups of 20
or so. All are for example dressed in T-shirts with "Tom's Night" printed on
them. It looks funny - he adds.

It is not only airlines who are profiting from this British trend but also
firms organising parties. One of these is STAGPARTY.PL. - We know where you can
go to have fun and what to do once you arrive in Poland. We are able to plan it
in detail for visitors - says Tomasz Szachnowski of STAGPARTY.PL. - We also
offer additonal attractions such as paintball, turbo golf or quad driving. The
cost of organising a weekend starts at several tens of złoty per person.

The least impressed with the British invasion it seems are... club owners.
Why? - We have seen how young Brits have fun in Tenerife. They are in general
beer-heads, who cause a lot of trouble - says Michał Milowicz,
actor and one of the owners of Warsaw clubu "Maska". - If it was up to me I
wouldn't let them in - he states. Of a similar opinion are also the managers
of fashionable Krakow clubu "Prozak".- It's possible that we may have to close
the club to Brits, as has been done in Prague. At the moment, we carry out a
strict door policy - he admits. - Our experiences are unfortunate. The British
behave terribly, get drunk quickly, they can even go out into the middle of the
dancefloor and 'satisfy their needs'. They have the impression, that these are
toursits of the lowest calibre. So what, if they leave money behind if it
doesn't always pay off, especially where reputation is concerned.

i was just getting into it... well, now the discussion is open even to those
who couldn't get throught the original.
          Maggie, i have a question - as i did the trans. without ref/ to a slownik -
what does 'oblężenia' mean? invasion wink?
          • russh Re: It's a British invasion, then :))) 27.03.06, 20:57
Marcus, you are a gentleman & a scholar.

            Thank you very much.

I had the idea of organising Stag parties in Warsaw when I first come over here
2 years ago, and I could not see anyone organising anything, but the people I
needed to do the leg-work weren't interested - said there was no chance! Another
idea gone to ruin - drat.

thank you very much. i am pleased to see my translation has been of use (apart
from for my own practise). yeah, i couldn't imagine a better place for a stag
              partyyywink)))))

Maggie, having had a moment to think about the semantics of the word (this is
often enough in Polish as i think of it as a particularly logical language), i
think it may be something like 'inpouring', might it be?

Thank you once again, this time for a very concise answer.
I myself have used sjp.pwn once or twice - the last time was on Saturday - i
was at college ('Introduction to Translation' - a preparatory course for the
Institute of Linguists' 'Diploma in Translation Studies') and i was faced
with words/phrases such as rotograwiura and starostwo and so on...
                • nasza_maggie Re: wow Marek :) 27.03.06, 21:55
oh dear, keep having to re-log.

No probs. I'm not a translator myslef. More of an interpretersmile
                  • marcus_anglikiem Re: wow Marek :) 27.03.06, 22:04
ooh, that's more difficult... do you work as an interpreter, or is it more of
                    a 'hobby'?
                    • nasza_maggie Re: wow Marek :) 29.03.06, 00:06
No its more that I have my own profession but
'since you can speak English can you help us out?'
and I get lumbered with it....
                      • marcus_anglikiem Re: wow Marek :) 30.03.06, 23:04
oh i remember, that can be fun (but i guess it can get a little too much 'fun'
for you sometimes?) once i was standing on a street corner in Goldap
interpreting one conversation PL-ANG, one ANG-PL whilst having a third
conversation myself in Polish. good times wink

It's all very well for him to say that, but Michal milowicz was happy enough to
have me get up on stage in the maska and do a duet of "love me tender" with
him, a few weeks ago, and I've got the film to prove it - unfortunately in .mov
so I can't get it up on the you tube service.

Actually, you have a point there - what IS your name?

          True.

You meet these tourists quite a bit in Warsaw. I saw some not being abloe to
figure out which button to press in the post office for the queue ticket and
getting all upset that it wasn't in English for them.

Another passing fashion - first it was Dublin, then Amsterdam, then Prague, as
new cheap flight destinations become available.
I don't think the residents of Bydgoszcz need to worry too much smile
