a certain taboo subject

Normally I would put this in the "annoying things in Poland" thread, but I
think it is too long already.
What annoys me often, but especially today, is this cult of personality. You
know who I mean right? JPII was a controversial figure, but he tried to teach
ppl to be good ppl, also to each other. Of all the countries I have been to
(ok its not that many, but still a few) the hostility to one another (total
strangers in the streets even) is pretty unique here. And today all that
hoopla! Nothing else on tv. To me its just hypocricy.
And yes, I am Polish.

Hmmn. I know what you mean.

Most people here didn't even know the guy.

I've been counting those white ribbons, and so far I've seen exactly none, not
only that but at 9.37 pm yesterday there were no bells to be heard either in
the church across the road, or the other one 500 yards away.
It's interesting that most of the newspapers and magazines that wrote so
excitedly about Woytyła and his "teachings" contained the usual horoscopes - it
shows that although 95% of Poles are Catholics and want to read about saints,
posthumous miracles, magic paintings and the evils of contraception, there are
also some who are more interested in superstitious nonsense.
