British adventurer ordered out of Russia

MOSCOW (Reuters) - A Russian court ruled on Friday that a British man
attempting to walk around the world should be deported from Russia for
breaking border rules, Russian television reported.

Former paratrooper Karl Bushby and Dimitri Kieffer, a U.S. citizen who helped
Bushby cross the Bering Strait, will be deported from Russia and will have to
pay a fine of 2,000 roubles, the court in the remote Chukotka peninsula ruled.

The two men were detained on April 1 in the freezing wilds of Chukotka after
walking across the Bering Strait

I think, to be honest, if a person is thinking of doing something like that and
doesn't first find out about visa requirements, etc, when it is not so hard to
get that info even from the foreign office, then I find it difficult to feel
      that much empathy with them.

When I was a little boy I fantasised about doing something like that, but even
at age 10, walking up to my primary school, I already knew that it would be a
bureaucratic nightmare. These days it would be much easier, but still you
cannot dispense with all the formalities.

I would love to see the day when he could do that and it be comnsidered normal,
but that will not happen this decade - if we're lucky it might happen towards
the end of the next one. But this guy, wherever he has walked to on this
      planet, isn't mentally on it.

If the guy wants to do a Forrest Gump impersonation, then Forrest Gump's
country would be the best place to do it, or even better, leave things like
that to people working in TV land, because the viewer doesn't see the army of
people making the often banal and boring arrangements that lie behind every few
      minutes of original footage.

He is one lucky dude he was sent out of the country alive. Other places they
would leave him with a 0.38mm souvenir between his eyes. That would be the end
        of his great adventure.
Isn't that plain common sense to get your papers up to snuff if you think of
        doing something like that?
        I agree...some people just don't get it.

Why is the moderator of this gazeta forum allowing the copying and pasting of
whole articles from other websites? Even with a link to the original story this
      is clearly breaking copyright laws.
      • firemouse Re: Copyright Infringement? 20.04.06, 11:06
I don't think that this violates the copyright law. As long as you quote the
source it's OK. Other thing is, these articles do not come from pay service, so
        they are free to distribute.

        BUT

        Netykieta published under

A link to the article does not suffice.

Republication or redissemination of the contents of any website is expressly
prohibited without the written consent of the writer. In this case Reuters.

I suggest that all such clear copyright infringements are removed immediately.

If Reuters apples for it I will of course remove it as a matter of courtesy.
However, what you need to understand is that the context of free discussion is
a higher matter - the matter of Freedom of Speech - than the need to observe
strictly either the lawyer generated myth of Intellectual Property Rights or
            the ideals of netiquette.

I get quite irate by people who are getting their money grubbing claws out at
the Chinese for copying western films and music without paying the same to
enjoy it that we pay, earning ten or twenty times the pay per head. Actually
they should be happy that they are contributing towards individual chinese
people being indoctrinated with Western ideals and being interested in and
learning the English language. If even one yuan is earned on so-called IPR for
China, we should regard it as an added bonus.

I also don't think we should be looking for IPR fees from any Muslim nation.

Yesterday I heard some stupid commentator saying China needs to be "whacked
over the head". I say, let him go there and do it for himself, if's he thinks
            he's hard enough.

Reference is made to Reuters there. What Reuters says?

This is fair use under the Geneva Convention, so don't sweat it.

We are a discussion group, and we are here to discuss the news. It is a benefit
for any writer to see their article discussed by a small group of intelligent
people, so if anyone should be charging for it, it is us and not them.

        Hope that clarifies matters.
