English books in Warsaw

Where do you guys buy your books in Warsaw? The American bookstore in Arkadia
seems to have forever the same books. Ordering by Amazon means very high
shipment costs. Any other suggestions?
There are history books in Empik already translated into Polish and not for
sale in English in Warsaw. Very frustrating.

The American Bookshops will order what you want if you really pester and cajole
them. It helps if you can get the mobile number of one of the people who work
there, and get on first name terms with them by talking English.

I have got hold of pretty good stuff from those guys.

Just bite the bullet and buy online!
Alternatively, do what I did a couple of years ago when I felt really down -
take a cheap flight to London with an empty rucksack and all credit cards
        primed!
Do you know just how good it is to spend 2 entire days just going round
        bookstores filling your bag up?

          him my shopping list smile
Dave thnks for your suggestion but if I have to get the mobile number of
bookshop guys to order something... too much for me am afraid sad

Amazon can send the books to your friend free of charge

Just one more thing - Amazon doesn't allow you to buy certain books if you live
              in Poland.
Is this because of some illegal practice?

I suppose any kind of books about ducks or other poultry/birds would qualify for
                this at the moment smile

Yes... I just discovered that option. It looks as if some suitcases traveling
from Canterb ury to Warsaw will be from now on much heavier smile
Anyway many thanks for the info smile

You are so lucky you weren't in this country in the early nineties, when I
started. I had to give someone a backhander to be able to purchase a video
            recorder in Warsaw. Seriously.

Well... I came the first time to Poland in september 1989, so I know what the
country was like then. But as a visitor I have to admit, always something
              different from living here.
