This is from today's online Telegraph. I include it as we were discussing it
before. Putin has now listened to Moses and let the people go.
Explorer allowed into Russia after ban overturned
(Filed: 05/05/2006)
A British explorer detained in Russia after being accused of entering the
country illegally has now been given permission to continue with his round-
the-world expedition.
Mr Bushby is keen to walk round the world
Karl Bushby, 37, was detained in the region of Chukotka on April 1 after
being accused of illegally crossing the Russian border by walking across the
frozen Bering Strait from Alaska.
The former British paratrooper from Hull was making the hazardous crossing as
part of his attempt at a round-the-world walk.
Mr Bushby's American travel companion, Dimitri Kieffer, was also detained and
the two were sentenced to deportation, a fine and a five-year travel ban to
Russia, which would have prevented them from completing the trip.
However, it has emerged that a court has overturned the ruling.
Mr Bushby's father today spoke of his delight that the pair could continue
their adventure.
"I'm absolutely delighted for Karl. It will be a great weight lifted from his
shoulders," he said.
"They will now spend the next couple of weeks collecting their equipment and
getting themselves together."
Mr Bushby wants to be the first person to walk around the world - from South
America to Alaska into Russia and then Europe. He has walked 17,000 miles
since he began his trip on November 1, 1998.
