Dear Friends, let's practice our english!

25.01.07, 14:27
Hello everyone, receptionists, secretaries and assistants!
I thought it would be a good idea to talk little bit english here. It'll be
helpful for us to improve our language skills as well as to realise how
good/bad we are, and what we should work on ....

Regards! :-)

I think this would make sense if a native speaker would proofread our thoughts
      and correct our mistakes.

Well, you are right but I think this can be a nice way for learning and getting
rid of shyness which often is a crucial 'stumbling block' in learning
        languages.
I've just come up with an idea that maybe these ones who are good at english
shall correct those ones who are not so good.
        How about that?

I am always uncertain as to my level of correctivenes in English so I feel I am
not in a position to assess someone else's skills - but If I make a mistake,
your advise would be very helpful

          let's wait for others' thoughts
          • daffiduck Re: Dear Friends, let's practice our english! 25.01.07, 15:06
Your english is perfect :-) Nothing to correct. But if you spot my errors -
            please tell me so.
I didn't mean to play a school here with division for teachers and students,
just thought it would be great to encourage others to share here whatever they
            want to :-)

              Hi Ladies,

My girlfriend, who is Canadian, said: : Honey (that would be me:-))) ) I'm very
impressed. These ladies speak perfect English. I can't believe it is their
second language. Congratulations....I wonder if others will join you here.
              So long

Thank you for your nice words! :-)
I am looking forward to seeing other girls (or boys) joining here, just for
                fun.
Please, don't be afraid to speak up!

Yes: let's practice our English: as an capital E.
Sorry for being pain in the ... but you know, that is one of those little
things that make your practice really useful.

Capitalize words derived from proper nouns.
Example: I must take English and math.
English is capitalized because it comes from the proper noun England but math
        does not come from mathland.
        But then:
England first appears as Englaland around the year 1000. Angles, Saxons, and
Jutes, who settled in England around 4th century..... they all spoke what would
have been called *Anglisc, or "Anglish," as it were .....Thus the record shows
that the Germanic residents of what Shakespeare called "this sceptered isle"
knew that they were speaking English long before they were aware that they were
        living in England.

So, does English (english) derives from a proper noun or not ???
