Looking for the perfect bra size for me

09.02.12, 02:18
I normally wear a 36K. But the bridge/center gore isn't sitting flat. Also the bottom part has extra fabric and the unde wires are resting on my rib cage. I had tried a 34KK and I have simlar results.

Recently i bought a 32L. Actually the it fits pretty well, but it's still not perfect. There is no extra fabric but the underwires still don't sit flat. I'm not sure where to go from here.

It is quite hard to say something without seeing the problem. If I were you, I would take a couple of photos and send them to our limited access blog. The blog is password-protected so your photos will never be public.
With a little help from Google Translate you can find how it works here: lobby.blox.pl/2011/01/Nowy-regulamin-galerii.html

BTW, some excess fabric underneath your boobs may suggest that cups are too big and the band is too tight, because the bra rides down to find a narrower place on your torso. Still, if you try a tighter band, the problem can actually disappear if the underwires are flexible and reach far behind your armpits - but you can hardly call it a good fit then.
Anyway, the best way to figure out what is wrong is to see it in the picture, so I strongly recommend our blog for a start.

I would also suggest our limited access blog for advice. Access to the blog is only given to experienced forum members to ensure privacy - but anyone can send pictures and ask for opinion. If the owner of the pictures has no access to the blog, comments are published here on the forum.

This is how photos are to be prepared to be published on the limited access blog:
        - each bra in a separate e-mail
        - up to 3 photos per e-mail (this is usually from the front, from the side and close-up of detail that causes your doubts, but no strict rules here)
        - picture width: 560 px
        - no more than 150kB per picture
        - part of your neck at least should be visible
        - as the blog admins do not edit the pictures in any way, you should take care to remove any background details you don't want people to see
        - name the pictures in the following way: yournick_braname_brasize_picturenumber - to make it easier for the admins

The pictures should be accompanied by clear description, including:
        - brand and name of the bra (this will be used on the blog as a title)
        - size, colour, style (needed for searching blog for specific items)
        - description of how you feel about the bra, how it fits, what the problems are
        - description of the wearer's bust (measurements in cm, plus any information that may be relevant such as approximate age, whether pregnant, breasfeeding now or in the past, dieting etc. - anything that influences or has significantly influenced the condition of your breasts)

If you want to be fully anonymous, inform the admins in the email containing pictures - your nickname will not be used.

When you take your measurements, measure yourself under the bust without a bra on, pulling the tape tightly. You can give two measurements: 1) as tight as possible 2) "loose" meaning with the tape tense but not squizing you in any way. To take your overbust measurement, it is best to put on your best fitting soft bra (when you put it on, remember to carefully place the wires where they should be and to push the breast from your underarms into the cups; finally, adjust the straps).

If you decide that you do not want to send your photos, then perhaps you may add your measurements here for clarity. It does not always help, but it may give some idea in which direction to go from the start.

I really don't think a small bra will work, I have tried smaller sizes and still have the same issue with the fabric on the bottom of the bowls, also when I push in the wale bone i can see that would fit if not for the shape of fact there isn't enough fabric on that side.

I do have a Panache Sienna I also has the same Issue with the extra fabric on the bottom. I have tried on every Panache known to women, and I have the same issue with bra. Extra fabric on the bottom and the whalebone doesn't lay flat.
              • ats02171 Re: Zdjęcia w galerii 16.02.12, 03:13
Also when I have tried a smaller size I have found that breast is popping out the top of the bra while there is still excess fabric on the bottom.

If you are sure that a smaller cup would not work (and you are a better judge here, pictures just don't show some things), I would suggest checking other brands or other styles.

The problem is that different styles and brands fit different busts. I would suggest that you should not look for "what is my bra size", but for specific brands and styles of bras that fit you in some sizes. I would try anything that runs to K cup. So it is rather "what is the brand / style that suits me and what sizes should I choose in those brands/styles"

Here are some things to consider:
                  - wires: are they too wide (pointing at your back), are they too high at any side (digging into your body); or perhaps they are too narrow, digging into your breast tissue at the sides - ideally the wires should where your breasts end, some place under your armpit
                  - shape of the cup - do you look better in plunge-styled bras? in balconettes? or in full cups? for example after I had tried Curvy Kate in several sizes without success, I was suggested that perhaps my breasts would need a narrower but deeper cup - which means that it will look good in plunges or plunge-styled bras (like Freya) or in full cups - but not so good in balconettes. And in my case this is true. It may be similar - or entirely different for you, depending on your breasts.
                  - shoulder straps - are they fully adjustable? how far do you adjust them?

And here are some brands you could test. (I will add some info about my experience with those bras but remember, yours may be entirely different :) )
                  - Panache (compare Harmony, Ariza and Fern - they have completely different fits! while Harmony has very wide wires, in my case pointing at the back and giving a lot of spare material under the breast, Fern had none of this)
                  - Freya (in my case it was always better than Panache; however, I usually need a smaller back in Freya than in Panache; there are quite a few Freyas in 36K now, just to start with)
                  - CurvyKate (in my case it was a complete failure but I hear a lot of people of cups around K actually praise them so it is good to try)
                  - Bravissimo (you already tested that, I believe; but then they now have a full range of bra styles and not all of them are identical; in most Bravissimo descriptions there are references to the basic style this is based on; I personally liked Alana quite a lot but I found that the wires on the front were harming my breasts)
                  - Flirtelle - I have not tried that but I saw this at Brastop
                  - last but not least Ewa Michalak (Effuniak)

In my case Effuniak was an absolute hit, but as this is a Polish brand and only available online, you need some instruction how to order.
The site is here: www.ewa-michalak.pl/ and you click UK flag for English
                  1) you have to measure yourself EXACTLY as instructed on their website under "Sizing Help", and then use their calculator; because their sizing in not UK and not European, it is their own (what is typical is that band sizes are quite snug and in most cases the calculator will show you a bigger band than you wear in UK sizing, and this is actually correct)
                  2) the calculator is a starting point to find your size but in Ewa Michalak's bras it is often correct
                  3) you have only Plunge Bras range to choose from (surprising, is it not? :D an actual plunge in cups up to L?) because half-cups are not made in such cup range and cannot be ordered;
                  4) all those are padded; some have additional pads removable pads to correct breast asymmetry (so you just take it out on your bigger breast and leave it in for the smaller one; but you can remove both)
                  5) after you get your supposed size, check individually all plunge bras (search is not really reliable)
                  - if you find your size and it is available without waiting, just order
                  - if you find it but "ready in 14 days" - also order it - it is 14 days because it will be made for you but you can return it if does not fit;
                  - if the calculator shows you K, KK, L cup, you may have a problem finding such a bra even with "ready in 14 days"; however, you can write an e-mail to the store giving the calculator results and asking about the possibility of ordering :) As I remember the rules are that if the material for a specific bra is available, it can be ordered individually in a size that does not appear in the size list BUT IT IS NOT RETURNABLE then. So if you are buying your first one, and for example you see that a cup one size smaller is available, it might be an idea to try that first, and if too small - return it and order the one you suppose will be good
                  6) when returning Effuniak padded bra, put them in the same cardboard box they were sent in; padded bras cannot be sent in an envelop for they lose they shape and the shop will not accept a padded bra returned in an envelope

I like the shape - not pointed but rather rounded; they are comfortable for me; they allow me wear all sorts of necklines I could not wear with a half cup or even a balconette. And in my case this was the bra which made all the "spare material at the bottom of the cup" disappear. HOWEVER - you might like and prefer a completely different bra. Wishing you luck in your search :)

P.S. Sorry for the lengthy post.

I agree with Clarisse- it can be problem with model or brand, not size. Your bust is similar to mine (but I think yours is in better condition) - so in my opinion models with non-elastic tops or with gum near the top border of bra may not fit. I think better will be bra like this: www.bravissimo.com/products/lingerie/sensational-sets/demi-diva-bra/pillarbox-red/sb04xr/?show=16&sort=4&level=2
than like this: www.bravissimo.com/products/lingerie/sensational-sets/broderie-bra/black/pa04bl/?show=16&sort=1&level=1 or model that you wear on photos.

Apart from size - sometimes looking for the bra means looking for the proper brand.
Please tell us what brands and models have you tried so far.
Have you ever tried Ariza of Panache? Caitlyn of Elomi?
If you tried them already on - could you please tell us what was wrong with them?
      • maheda Re: Looking for the perfect bra size for me 16.02.12, 21:27
And yes, I know that sometimes it's just like looking for a company that doesn't exist yet.

Elomi is not a company with K cups, I know. But their J cup often is much more than regular J. Why not give it a try?
        • ats02171 Re: Looking for the perfect bra size for me 17.02.12, 03:24
I have tired Elomi and they don't give me any support in the Catlin. I didn't have the extra fabric at the bottom of the cup but whalebone still didn't lay flat. The band was really really loose and shape of my breast was low. Also I noticed that I wasn't

I have tried very panache bra in my size.

I have tried Full cups, Balconette, and the Sienna which is a plunge. All of the Panache has extra fabric on the bottom and the whalebone will not lay flat against sternum.

I have tried several Freya Bras a well.
I have the same issue with Freya as I do with Panache and Bravissimo's brand.

Maybe you should try Ewa Michalak bras.
You could find one here: www.ewa-michalak.pl/product-eng-219-PL-Malachit.html
There are 80K, 80KK and 80L sizes available (36K, 36KK and 36L), maybe this would suit you?

            (PL sztuka = EN item)

But I see what you mean.
Looking for a bra that would be perfect for us might be pain in ... some part of our body.
I know women wearing bras sized very close to yours. Some of them have one style of one company and it's all that is fine with them.
