Dzisiaj po podwyzszeniu produkcji i lepszych YIELD, AMD zmienilo ceny na
Athlon64 (-) i AthlonXP (+) aby dalej pograzyc INTEL powoli likwidujac
socket "A" - Athlon64 staje sie jeszcze bardziej atrakcyjny.

22 Sierpnia 2004 Intel ma obciac ceny na Pentium 4 i Celery D o pare
groszy.

socket "A" "Athlon XP" zastapi socket 754 "Sempron" nowy Athlon XP na 64
bit core z 32 bit instrukcjami. Najbardziej "porzadany" jest jednak socket
939 gdzie mozan uzywac Athlon 64 i athlon 64 FX.
Socket 940 to juz tylko servery Athlon 64 FX 53 i Opteron 2,4,8 series.

          AMD Sempron for Socket A

          The initial AMD Sempron processors will be designed for Socket A infrastructure
          and will contain cores used in the current AMD Athlon XP microprocessors.

          The Sunnyvale, California-based chipmaker plans to replace AMD Athlon XP
          processors with AMD Sempron chips in the third quarter of the year, sources
          said.

          Socket 754 infrastructure are likely to feature AMD Athlon 64 core, but with
          disabled 64-bit capability. Formerly such chips were code-named Paris and
          Victoria. “Paris” will be made using 130nm process and is expected to have
          256KB of L2 cache, whereas the size of L2 of the code-named “Victoria”
          processor produced using 90nm technology is not known.

          AMD Sempron for Socket 939 – in Q1 2005

          In early 2005 AMD is likely to release another version of Sempron chips for
          Socket 939 mainboards. Currently there are no details about such chips except
          some obvious suggestions. It is not clear whether PGA939 value central
          processing units from AMD feature dual-channel memory controller.

          Among advantages of the AMD Sempron microprocessors in PGA754 and PGA939
          packaging integrated single-channel PC3200 memory controller, SSE2 technology,
          better pre-fetch mechanism and generally revamped architecture over AMD Athlon
          XP chips should be mentioned.

          Faster than Celeron, But What About 64-bits?

          AMD aims its Sempron microprocessors as serious competitors for Intel Celeron D
          products. Typically Advanced Micro Devices prices its affordable chips in line
          with competing Celeron offerings, but usually tries to offer better performance
          compared to Intel’s entry-level lineup.

          At this point it is not clear whether AMD enables 64-bit capability in its
          PGA754 and PGA939 Sempron microprocessors or will stick to 32-bit computing
          with its value central processing units.

          Since the whole industry is beginning transition to 64-bit processors, it is
          possible to expect AMD and Intel to enable 64-bit registers in Sempron and
          Celeron microprocessors eventually.

          your motherboard displaying AthlonXP at boot time, you don't even require a

          AMD has unveiled a new processor brand based on its existing AthlonXP
          architecture to serve the value PC segment. Available for Socket A and Socket
          754, AMD's Sempron matches Intel Celeron D's clockspeeds and prices and, AMD
          says, out benchmarks the Celeron D.

          AMD has sought to compensate for its Athlon64's large die size to create a
          high-yield, low-cost processor as a replacement for its Duron line, which
          represented AMD's value offering for years. Indeed, the Athlon64's yield is not
          conducive for large-volume production and shipment units. This has thus
          prevented AMD from introducing slower and more affordable versions for the
          highly attractive Socket 939.

          The Socket A Sempron can be considered an easy deal for upgrades, as it will
          immediately run on all motherboards capable of running at FSB333. It's similar
          with the Socket 754 Sempron, while hardly anybody will pick this one as an
          upgrade path.

          As soon as Sempron will hit the market, the lower and middle class AthlonXP
          models will immediately be phased out. The first victims of AMD's new course
          will be all models up to 2500+. The 2600+ and 2700+ chips will ship last in the
          third week of August according to a recent AMD roadmap. All the faster models
          will remain available till the end of Q3 and will be given a quick death then.

          While Socket A might still be selling extremely well by offering an excellent
          price/performance ratio, which could easily change at the end of this year
          already.

          AMD has no intentions of releasing faster Socket A models.

          The Socket 754 platform won't stand a chance against Intel's dual channel
          FSB800 and FSB1066 clock speed monsters, so it's perfectly suitable as a value
          platform for future Sempron processors.

          This is why the Socket 754 Paris processor was born: It is an Athlon64
          Newcastle without 64 Bit extensions, but with Cool & Quiet, NX bit, 256 KB L2
          cache and 1.8 GHz clock speed. Users that have a system with a Sempron 3100+
          will have the road paved for upgrades to Athlon64 3400+ and 3700+. Faster
          Athlon64 versions for Socket 754 are unlikely, but the Palermo core will
          continue the Sempron family at 90 Nm at the beginning of 2005.

          Let's look at the thermal specification of both rivals first: The maximum
          thermal loss of the 2.0 GHz Sempron (2800+) is 68.3 W, while the Celeron D is
          specified at 73 W and thus less efficient in terms of power/performance.

          After a short look at our benchmark results the conclusion is clear: AMD's
          Sempron is able to outperform Celeron D in most applications. In addition,
          motherboards based on the nForce2 Ultra 400 chipset offer more graphics
          performance than Intel's 865G platform at a similar and sometimes lower price -
          even though we're talking about a pathetic level of 3D experience here.

          But that is not the reason why value systems are bought. Price is what counts
          and this is why AMD is making extensive use of its proven technology. In order
          to grow its business, AMD needs to continually draw maximum value out of its
          existing products and to transfer that value to its customers. This is what AMD
          accomplished with the Sempron, by combining existing AthlonXP and Athlon64
          features to fulfill a specific market sector demand, which in this case is the
          value processor market."

        That earned this chip a model number rating of 3100+.

        Five mobile Sempron chips will make their way into low-cost notebook systems
        over the rest of the year, Mahony said. AMD will have two categories of mobile
        chips based on power consumption. One category of mobile Sempron chips for full-
        sized notebooks will consume 62 watts of power under maximum conditions, and a
        separate category for thin-and-light notebooks will consume 25 watts under
        maximum conditions.

        The mobile chips are based on the Athlon 64 core, but do not have 64-bit
        capability. Three chips will be initially released in the 62-watt category, and
        two chips in the 25-watt category. The 2600+ and 2800+ processors in each
        category run at 1.6GHz, but the higher-rated processor comes with an additional
        128K bytes of Level 2 cache for a total of 256KB. The 3000+ processor in the 62-
        watt category runs at 1.8GHz and comes with 128KB of Level 2 cache."
