The U.N. Relief and Works Agency, which aids (news - web sites) Palestinian
refugees, said 114 homes had been destroyed at the start of the military's
new operation in Rafah, leaving 1,240 people homeless. The army has said
about 30 buildings were knocked down.
The human rights group Amnesty International called the destruction a "war
crime."
