      Wolę zapomnieć.

Well, fortunately the fate saved me from really bad English teachers, and I
didn't have much contact with totally incompetent ones. (I'm talking about the
elementry ang high-school teachers, as I was the lucky one who had only one
teacher for 4 years in the elementry, and only one for 4 years in high-school,
by the way both of them were excellent: well-prepared for the classes,
punctual, with an excellent command of English, speaking the British variety,
motivating, demanding but friendly, both of them appreciated hard work and
        were just)

It was worse at the university... I was studying languages in two departments:
English and another language, where English was the main criterion on the
entrance exam, and its level was quite high (Approximately the same level of
difficulty as the one on the final exam in the English Teachers' Training
        College)
However, the first year of English was a total failure. We were taught by an
assistant ( a girl form the English deprtment) who was neither proficient in
English (in terms of grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, accent) nor effective
form the methodological point of view. It was a complete waste of time,
extremely boring classes, so I didn't attend these, therefore I can't call her
my teacher, and now it's just a memory I hardly remember.

There was also a guy who taught us writing in the English Teachers'Tarining
College, who didn't conduct lessons, but somehow wasted our time, but nothing
too striking. The only problem was that he was very unfair and he didn't even
bothered to conceal it but ostentatiously demonstrated his predilaction for
certain people and his hostility towards others...

        LAter,
        Kociamama.

Did you go to uni in Poland? I can only assume the level of teacher's
proficiency is better in Poland than in Australia :)

            Yeah
I'm (unfortunately still stydying) in POland. I'm in the fifth year and I
can't wait to finish these crappy studies (which are called an elite
            depratment, like most ones...)
I hope I'll manage to get down to writing my Master's Thesis finally, as
there's practically no time left. But they achieved their goal
(they=professors), namely,to discourage most students from the subject of our
            studies...
I wish I had had the guts to go to the university abroad... But life's long.

            Later,
            KOciamama.

Well, the one in year 12 (high school) was a real bitch. Totally bureaucratic
plus she literally hated some students. The study program was crap, e.g. we had
to write pointless essays on B category American movies and novels for naive
teenagers. It was worse than Polish in Polish primary school.

I didn't have English at university per se, but I did "Age of Information" as my
foundation unit, which was quite interesting. The teacher was from South Africa
and his accent was quite noticeable. The unit was a lot of fun; we got to
discuss some interesting topics such as freedom of speech on the Internet,
global surveillance, etc. I really liked it, think I got high distinction on my
      exam.

My secondary school teacher. Well, I definitely wasn't her favourite, either.
A middle-aged lady who spent 1/3 of the lesson on filling in the register, then
15 min on checking our homework. The last third was devoted to reading texts
in 'We learn English' book. And she wanted to prove how bad I was. So, in
exchange I wanted to prove her how wrong she was;) Even if I was well prepared
she would never give me A. In my first grade I learnt the book almost by heart
to get A. I really did - I knew every single word that was there, no matter if
it was in an exercise or the table of contents. It didn't help much, she said I
missed one test (out of 7), so there was only B.
However, at my matura exam she gave me A, but then I couldn't care less. Until
know I think of her as 'that studpid cow'.
However, then my English was good engough to pass the entrance exams to the
      English Philology;-)

Chris, so maybe she was not so bad at all. She forced you to learn English
seriously and all in all you ended up as a student of English. Would it have
happened if you had had another teacher of English in your secondary school?
        • Gość: chris Re: Describe your worst English teacher IP: *.icpnet.pl 25.01.04, 18:15
She was bad. Believe me. Plus she was boring and her lessons were a waste of
          time.

Well, if I hadn't been so good at English then I would probably be a doctor
now. I changed my mind in the very last moment. Sometimes I wish I hadn't.

Don't regret anything. I think that being a doctor is a much more responsible
job than being, let's say, a teacher of English (although, as we can see, some
bad teachers can leave scars in their students' psyche) or a translator.
            • Gość: chris Re: Describe your worst English teacher IP: *.icpnet.pl 25.01.04, 19:58
              'don't regret anything." hm.....

I am a teacher - and (as some people say) I am an uneducated person (who
couldn't find a better job),lazy (you know -2 or 3 months holiday), frustrated,
              irresponsible, etc.

I am a translator - and then, again, no big deal, "all you need is just a
              dictionary" - that's another opinion.

Well, I'm not a doctor and and least I am not 'studpid, greedy, rude,
              unpleasant, immoral' etc.

              :-) What a life...
