What does it mean?
    • amused.to.death Re: Turn on, tune in and drop out! 05.09.04, 13:04
coś w stylu: włącz, nastrój się/wsłuchaj się i odleć (tzn. coś jest takie fajne, że odlot) - tak mniej więcej.

      Jakaś fajna muzyka?

      To hasło hippisów:
Dosłownie: włącz się (do ruchu), dostrój się (do tego, co się dzieje) i
      odpadaj (czyli rzuć szkołę, pracę).

Zdaje się, że wymyślił to Timothy Leary, ten od LSD.

        turn on = get stoned
tune in = make the connection (with the "movement")
drop out = exit the "social order" (and of course don't trust anyone over 30).

yeah, you poor guys. I guess the 60's never happened in Poland.

I should know. been there, done it (repeatedly).
        nobullshit ma racje: haslo hippisow.

Not my fault, I was born in 1964! So I turned on and tuned in
in the eighties. Fortunately never fully dropped out, unlike some
          of my late friends...

dropping out isn't that dfficlut and that can be worrying (no U-turns)
as for turning on and tuning in - I could never do these

If yes, what is it like now? Say, what car do you drive;)

They told me when I was little
I'd go to heaven, if I was good.
Now I'm a long way from little
'Cause I tried to find heaven, 'cause I thought that I could
                    I thought that I could.
And I thought I loved Harold and I really loved John,
I really loved Alphy and I almost loved Tom.
I loved them so easy and I loved them so free,
So I don't think that heaven will wanna love me.

                    Hallo, song of the willow,
The dreams under my pillow turned to tears that I cried.
Beauty and love are our riddle,
Never to answer but always to try,
                    And boy, did I try?
I tried with Harold and I tried with John,
I tried with Alphy and almost with Tom.
I left myself open for the whole world to see,
Now the world is the heaven that won't accept me.

I said goodbye to Harold and goodbye to John,
Goodbye to Alphy and goodbye to Tom
'Cause I loved them so easy and I loved them so free,
So I don't think that heaven will wanna love me.
Oh say, can you see, by the dawn's early light
                    No light will shine me?

                        I'm back in town.
You don't look so happy 'cause I'm back in town
You don't look like smiling, don't jump up and down on my toes.
I guess I better go, oh.

                        I'm very sure.
I should have knocked when I opened the door.
Pardon me, miss, but he's just a friend from before
                        Who never locked his door.
I opened without knocking like before.

And that would be about it:)))
Have a nice day and the rest of your life and don't drive too fast your little

I guess it was Melanie who awoke my doubts at some point

'What do you do when the people go home
And what do you do when the show is all done'

yeah, hippies - the show offs of the 60ies?
I was born too late to see that show but then when I was big enough to go round
places I never found any traces of them. Well, i thought, dinosaurs... there
must have been a big bang somewhere...

In my opinion it was one big media event, with fashion coming around quickly
with new styles to milk some money. Same for music and movies.

Apart from some communes where nobody knew what to do (I did not participate)
it WAS truly a big show off of who is more cool, "in" or square.

                        Pity the ones that overdosed.

"Hit the city and I lost my band" - who wrote that?

                          I've seen the needle
                          and the damage done
A little part of it in everyone
                          But every junkie's
                          like a settin' sun.
                          ---------------------------

                          Yeap, and it's not over

Lots of setting suns... just the style seems somewhat different. But then what
difference do styles make? Whether you are a hippie or a buddhist - if you turn
                          out an early setting sun.
