Hey Leonardo - are these guys for real?

You must've heard the Hey Leonardo number by the Blessid Union of Souls - BTW a one hit band, I imagine. It's a nice enough party song - good for hopping around and spilling some lager on your friends. I you haven't, here are the lyrics:

I just need to ask you a very important question, probably the most important one I'll ever ask or be asked tonight (don't be mad, a. <lol> ) - do these people really mean it? From the very beginning, I understood this song was a big spoof on Hollywood lifestyle but hey! One of my friends actually insists that it's all for real, telling me she saw some interview with the band when they told the reporter they actually meant all they were singing. I don't really know what to believe now, but my friend may just be screwing with me or trying to pick a fight, as she often does. So, I'd like to call up a panel of impartial judges (that's you) to examine the subject matter of the dispute (the song) and notify the claimant (that's me) of your award (your thoughts, folks).

I get the impression that you might have been hopping around and spilling some
larger on your friends yourself, ensuring that some of it finds its way into
your mouth, as is right and proper. Vocal artists often mean what they sing,
they go out of their way to experience life, collect the material that will
fuel their creative talent. Because raw talent needs fuel. No, I mean raw
talent needs a vehicle. I'll keep it brief not to confuse anyone. That's why
when they write the lyrics themselves, they speak from the heart so the songs
can touch other people. Even if they make it up it's still true. That's what
they say about literature. you have to lie to tell the truth. And when you tell
the truth it's never really all true, and everybody's truth is different, so
people might think you are telling a lie. So do you think axx is after your
money? Anyway, here's a song called Finnegan's wake. I hope you like the
      lyrics. Thank you.

        >So do you think axx is after your money?

It's either looks or money. So until I see his pic, it's $$$.
Oh, all right, I won't lie. You can't live on looks.

        (at least I'm honest :)

          >I don't really know what to believe now, but my friend may
          >just be screwing with me or trying to pick a fight, as she often does

I think that under the veneer of cynicism he is in touch with his young and
vulnerable side. He's got the mixed blessing of being chased by women who are
only after his money and it's not for me to say what he thinks about that. Who
knows, he might appreciate the honesty. But he is sensitive too and would like
someone to love him just for himself. I think this question is a thin vail
disguising/reflecting his own deep concerns. He gets mixed signals from his
peer group thereon(=whom/who) he cannot fully trust and experiences all these
inner conflicts. He is in a double-bind getting all these 'come on' signals
from women who openly admit they don't want him for himself, just his money.
Wouldn't surprise me if he is using stimulants/suppressants to alter his mood.
Remember what he said about you not having any idea just how relaxed he was?
And the riddle he posted - a return to the time of innocent, simple
pleasures... I'm glad you are being honest with him.

Bravo! Bravo! I almost choked on my supper. Wonderful psychoanalysis Ms.
Jones :) I'm sure Jan will appreciate it, after all, he's getting it here for
free. No need to spend hard-stolen....er, I mean hard-earned money on
            psychologists.
What I want to know now is whether or not I stand a chance of laying my hands
on that hard-...cash. Oops. Sorry, I've got bills to pay so $$ is on my mind
lately. I meant a chance of laying (my hands on) Jan of course.

              > What I want to know now is whether or not I stand a chance of laying my hands

I couldn't possibly comment. All I can say is that laying of hands is an
ancient healing ritual, beneficial to the receipient and it's up to you to
              convince him of that :))

If we believed they were for real, we'd have to believe all the songs of this
sort (eg "i wanna do it with madonna" by the androids).
I think it's all just marketing really..

As for Leonardo - well, thanks but no thanks :))

      >I don't really know what to believe now, but my friend may just be screwing
with me or trying to pick a fight, as she often does.

Well, some "friends" just like screwing around with people's heads and it's
usually the ones that don't find gainful employment. You must be a very young
man who takes all that stuff so seriously. I can see how it can throw you off!
As for me, I wouldn't spend a minute of my life trying to figure out sombody's
lyrics. The guy MIGHT BE telling the truth but it could be a pile of hogwash
too. And really, who cares? Lyrics can have thousands of interpretations and
some singers don't even have a clue what they want to say as long as it rhymes.

Kylie1, I hope you're earning big bucks as an Agony Aunt somewhere! You sound
so level-headed and genuine, kulczyk is lucky!

Do you think we're beginning to look like the three witches of Eastwick? No,
        silly idea ;)
        • axxolotl Re: Hey Leonardo - are these guys for real? 28.06.05, 01:07
By the way, where is kulczyk? He wouldn't be avoiding us, would he?
Naah, he's just playing hard to get.

          Agony Aunt, Ms Jones?

Sounds like a jab at me for not psychoanalysing someone's lyrics. You filled in
the gap beautifully, though. I don't get excited over that, don't do it and
therefore don't get paid for it, either. You might, though!

            > Agony Aunt, Ms Jones?

What I meant was that you sounded like a people's person. I'm not sure why I
picked an agony aunt. I must have been thinking of Marielia Forstrup who is a
journalist, TV and radio presenter and I don't know what else. Oh yes, google
tells me she was one of the judges on the Booker Prize and the Whitbred Prize
panel (prestigious book awards). She has an agony page in the Observer, so my
image of agony aunts is entirely a positive one. Right. No yoga classes for me,
putting a foot in my mouth comes quite naturally. I'm off to my therapy group
to work on my communication skills. :(

              >I'm not sure why I picked an agony aunt.

I am not sure either. Am I supposed to be familiar with Marielia Forstrup
              or "Observer"?

              >No yoga classes for me, putting a foot in my mouth comes quite naturally.

I can tell. You might still want to consider Japanese knife-fighitng arts.
Something's telling me you would do real good!

          Aunt Agony sounds better :)

No i jak tu was nie kochać?

Capisce?
