Przekombinować - any ideas?

17.07.05, 21:03
For this beautiful Polish term I cannot seem to find any English counterparts which would be brief, funny and to the point. Anyone?

Tak, ale to bardzo obszerny temat, czy możesz zawęzić słownikowo ten polski
      termin?
      • jan.kulczyk Re: Przekombinować - any ideas? 17.07.05, 21:37
Nie bardzo jestem w stanie, ale jest on raczej jednoznaczny i każdy polskojęzyczny powinien wiedzieć, o co chodzi.
        • kylie1 Re: Przekombinować - any ideas? 17.07.05, 21:39
I have no clue what it means, JK. Can you write us a single sentence that
contains that word so I can have some idea...thanks...:)
          • jan.kulczyk Re: Przekombinować - any ideas? 17.07.05, 22:07
OK, my bad, I can see it's not so clear without the context so I'll try to clarify:

"Praktycznie wszystko, o czym możesz pomysleć, możesz umieścić w sygnale budowanej strategii. Pamiętaj jednak, że czasami prostszy pomysł jest lepszy. Po prostu staraj się "nie przekombinować".

Sorry for the Polish - it's not mine. It's just a text I'm working on.

I must admit that none of these conveys the flavor of the good old Polish term, but they're still very helpful and and some I'd forgotten about entirely! Thank you all very much! Admin bless you guys! ;)

Its probably nowhere near it but at least in that direction:
Tried to be a smart ass.
    • waldek1610 not always legal... 18.07.05, 09:15
word "-kombinowac" means; to arrange something that is not always legal, to
cheat, to make ends meet, to try to beat the system.
The first "prze-" part, means its overdone, or not done right.
Przekombinowac, propabli means to do somethink that was suppose to be briliant
and smart and the end result was not intended...
      • easystreet Re: not always legal... 18.07.05, 14:31
Mamma mia! If there's one thing I can't stand, is phonetic writing of bad
pronunciation...somethink et al? GGGGGGGGG na koncu. Check your spelling, Try
        editing before you submit, peeeeease!
kombinowac...nie ma dobrego odpowiednika in E. ...choc i w chorwackim tez uzywa
sie w tym podobnym kontekscie. Widocznie to slowianska specjalnosc!

        • waldek1610 Re: not always legal... 21.07.05, 08:07
          Easystreet,
Now I think you need to take a shower and relax. Why do Poles in Poland put so
much attention on grammar, while their conversation skills are so poor? And if
you want to quote others on this forum, just do that. Nowhere in my last post I
can see the frase "something at all" mispronounced. So I hit the wrong key by
mistake, big deal. Don't be childish...
    • justa_79 Re: Przekombinować - any ideas? 18.07.05, 09:43
is there any English counterpart for "kombinować" at all? I thought it is a
      Polish speciality ;)
      • waldek1610 Polish Peoples Republic mentality... 18.07.05, 10:08
no, there is not an english countepart for polish word "kompinowac". Same deal
as with the "zalatwic". Those are the Polish People Republic dinosaurs that
that are used only in Poland. I wished that this mentality of doing shady
bussiness was eradicated from polish psyhe. Because of those
(zalatwic, kombinowac) we have terrible goverment who leads Poland realying on
that type of mentality, instead doing what's right, and in everybodys interest.
        • deadeasy Re: Polish Peoples Republic mentality... 18.07.05, 12:08
"przekombinowac" does not exist in the PWN Dictionary (yet?). Let's hope it
will never appear there. If it does - be afraid, be *very* afraid.
          ;o)

I'd put it the other way round - because of our government, we have
to "kombinować" in order to survive in this country...

While you doing that you are just cheatting your country and in they way
yourself. By avoiding paying taxes eg; polish nobles and aristocracy devoided
Poland of necessery funds to spend for military, and there you go we have
partitions, Poland is gone. How stupid you got to be not to understand that by
cheating your own country you are hitting yourself on the head.

Juz wczesniej zastanawialam sie nad tym okresleniem, i prosze: sluchajac radia,

            • jan.kulczyk Re: Przekombinować - any ideas? 18.07.05, 20:13
Obawiam się, że określenie wheelin' and dealin' nie do końca nadaje się do dokumentacji programu maklerskiego, choć semantycznie - a zwłaszcza jego druga część - zbliża się do kręgów biznesowych ;) Ale to fajne określenie, dzięki.

It was absolutely glorious. I put together something like this: "Remember-keep it simple rather than overcomplicate and go overboard with ideas. And don't be a smartass, stupid!!!"

I think the users will be delighted to see someone actually understands how they usually feel using state-of-the-art trading software.

A simple thank you now goes to Vancouver, Canada ;)!

Although I have this feeling I already thanked y'all ;)

I'm not offended. Not at all sick as a parrot. Or gutted. Fine, use everybody's
ideas except mine. Complain? Not me, sir. I can keep a stiff upper lip and

But that would be overdoing it. We wouldn't want Jan to overthink it (means
long absence from the forum). Besides sometimes less is more.

Ergo: your idea was also included!

It would warm the cockles of your late great great grand uncle's heart, I'm
sure. Of course we are talking 'without prejudice', aren't we, ie arrangements
freely entered into by mois and we don't mean to preempt bids by third parties.
I hope the brief you put together will bring expected results and the project
is a resounding success. Ta ta. :)

Hey, Waldek! You're out of context, if you haven't noticed. Hope you understand
what I mean by that PHRASE. Yeah, grammar is something I happen to pay attention
TO, if you don't mind. I know about typos and how easy it is to overlook them
(make them often myself), but Waldek, what do you mean by ....in Poland? You
mean you're outside Poland? Well, your English is unfolding. You give new
mwaning to the term "life-long learning". I wish you whatever you wish for
          yourself! Regards!
