A (preferably free) text corpus?

Anyone knows where to get a text corpus?

Apparently I have been overrating google's reliability in checking if certain
expressions are or aren't correct (which has been made clear to me in a
neighbouring thread).
Now I think I could really use a searchable database of English texts that has
the rather important advantage over google of containing only correct samples
of language. A free internet corpus would be ideal, but commercial ones are
also an option.

Check them, however, as I haven't been using them for a long time. Or have
        never done, actually :-)

They're so unbearably sluggish it makes me want to cry, and contain incorrect
instances of use, too... But will almost certainly come handy from time to time.
Edict is interesting - not nearly as comprehensive as one would wish, but at
least this one's fast and reliable (the corpora of The Times). Definitely worth
      bookmarking.
Big thanks, and I hope more are to come...
