In my opinion, American students are generally nowhere as knowledgeable as
Polish students, one exception being their familiarity with high-tech devices.

        Public schools are....no comment.
Every child whose parents are wealthy enough to pay for private schools has a
        chance to be well educated!

It is a very broad topic and not easy to tackle
in a very limited space we have.
As far as K-12 education goes it is basically
one size fits all (there are no vocational
schools in the US) approach which has its
      huge drawbacks.
Most of high school graduates in the US
have less knowledge than their Polish
      piers (those who graduated from
a liceum), but they may have acquired some other
relevant skills, which are rarely taught
      in Polish high schools.

Most of good high schools are private,
but there are very good public high schools,
      although they are quite rare.

What might be interesting for you is
that catholic schools are usually considered
to be very good and are in big demand
      even among non-catholics.
Perhaps it is a matter of a better discipline,
      I am not quite sure.

As far as universities concerned it also
depends. There are those which are considered
to be among the best in the world and
there are academically poor schools including also
      religious "universities" in which academic
standards are secondary to the official ideology.

There are however some nationwide accreditation
criteria to make sure that at least a certain
      minimum is met.

I think that undergraduate students in the US
have much more flexibility as far as what
they want to do during their four year stay
at a university than they have in Poland.

On the other hand the students here are not
treated as adults, but as big children
who require constant attention from the
part of their parents (they get report cards
      every semester), teachers and administration.

The scenes of a freshmen class arriving on
campus with their parents carrying their belongings
for them to a dormitory are really funny
and strange for someone who studied in Poland.

It is impossible to give a meaningful answer to this question.
It is as if someone asked "what do you think about education in Europe?"

There are good public schools and bad public schools.
Good private schools and bad ones.

In the end, what you learn depends on your attitude towards school and
learning, not on where you went to school.
