Tower Bridge is a bascule bridge in London, England over the River Thames. It
is close to the Tower of London, which gives it its name. It has become an
iconic symbol of London and is sometimes mistakenly called London Bridge,
which is actually the next bridge upstream.
The Tower Bridge are the most popular attraction in London. The bridge was
opened on 30 June 1894 by the Prince of Wales, the future King Edward VII of
the United Kingdom, and his wife, Alexandra of Denmark.
Buckingham Palace is the official London residence of the British monarch. He
was built in 1703. Today, Buckingham Palace is not only the home of the Queen
and Prince Philip but also the London residence of the Duke of York and the
Earl and Countess of Wessex. Interior the palace isn't available for
tourists. The palace is the workplace of 450 people. Every year some 50,000
people are entertained at garden parties, receptions, audiences, and banquets.
The Clock Tower is a clock structure at the north-eastern end of the Houses
of Parliament building in Westminster, London. It is popularly known as Big
Ben, however this name actually belongs to the clock's main bell. The clock
has become a visual symbol for the United Kingdom and London. The tower is
designed in the Victorian Gothic style, and is 96.3 metres (316 feet) high.
The clock is famous for its reliability.
The British Airways London Eye, also known as the Millennium Wheel, opened in
1999 and is the largest observation wheel in the world. It stands 135 meters
and the total weight of steel in the Eye is 1,700 tonnes.
The wheel does not usually stop to take on passengers. The rotation rate is
so slow that passengers can easily walk on and off the moving capsules at
ground level. The wheel carries 32 capsules which to hold 25 persons.
