the very low level of the way English behave inUK

IP: *.range217-44.btcentralplus.com 20.03.08, 04:42
I had been working at school. It was public primary school in
London. I was shocked with the way teachers and even the headteached
behaved. They didn't say good morning they didn't say see you after
work. It was hard for me to believe that people who should educate
do not know how to behave or is it something that is not anymore
important in UK? Please explain. I know a few other people who work
in schools in London and their opinion about teachers in London is
pretty the same. Why you do not care why you do not expect from each
other some level of behaving anymore in UK. I have also noticed very
low level of the way people behave I mean in buses, in the streets
etc. They drop rubish just whenever and it is widely accepted, they
swear, they shout they listen to their own music without headsets. I
thind it quite odd that no one cares about it. Please tell me what
has happened?

As a teacher of English as a second langauge I deal soley with
foreign students and everything is fine in my world..!

I think parents have to take some blame for how their kids behave at
school...parents often have an unlimited supply of poor excuses when
the school contacts them re: their child's poor attitude...this will
only encourage the child to continue along the same lines.

There seems to be a total meltdown of civilised values in our
society..the pupils have no respect for the teachers and vice
      versa...

Perhaps there should be a place for the teaching of ethical virtures
from an early age on the school curriculum..?

but you teach adults right?I moved to publishing industry and
evryone is very nice and cultural but in school it was very very
different then what I remeber from Poland. I would be very surprise
if other teacher would not say hello in the mrning, that was pretty
common in that primary school in central London. Yes teachers would
need classes of how to behave, but shouldn't they just know it.
        regards,j

Yes, teachers should always be polite to their students, in my
opinion, but I guess some classes are just beyond that. I read of
one case where a female primary school teacher was assulted over 100
times in 6 months by the same pupil. Violent behaviour tends to
happen in schools situated in areas where there are severe social
problems. The opposition party - the Conservatives - are considering
introducing a teacher protection act...(!) Part of the fault, as
discussed earlier, lies with the parents but another large part must
also rest with an ineffective education curriculum.

The person,a one time teacher in London, hasn't been to Poland for a long
            time.I'm a primary and secondary teacher,I've been teaching for 15 years,and the
situation of losing civilised values in our society is becoming hard to
believe.I can't find the difference between Polish and English behaviour of our
kids.Violent behaviour is part of their daily routines,TV feeds us with
horrifying news about teachers suffering from their pupils:making obscenic
videos, swearnig and smoking in classrooms during lessons and so on.We could
blame an ineffective education curriculum, bad trained teachers, lack of money and
even the bad weather. The solution will still be hiding behind the ethical values.

Yes, nothing seems to work on a wholesale basis..perhaps the real
form of politics has yet to be invented..any ideas?

young learners,6-year-old kids are really intelligent ones
they absorb knowledge like a sponge
adults are the main cause of problems, and only adults...
they say sth else, the think sth else and they do sth else
the kid wants to see us as a human being, while we behave like a god
we do not make mistakes,we know everything better,we can punish if we want,we are powerful creatures....
one day they cannot stand our double standards and they have to blow up

                ps
which one is England's national sport:football or cricket?
some books and net pages say:football, some cricket
I know the meaning of "national" and "popular"..and follow the definitions football is ,isn't it?

                kind regards
                iza

Football is definately the national sport though Im not sure which
would be number 2...cricket or rugby..? How about Poland?

I agree with you that what you say is important and how you say it
is of equal importance...there's huge scope for improvement on the
                  education front..:)

I think football is quite popular in Poland and winter sports like
                    ski jumping.

One of my Polish students told me that aqua parks are popular in
Poland and she was surprised that the UK doesn't have many aqua
parks...probaby because we waste too much water using those single
                      taps... :)

The vast majority of Poles take part in individual sports
such as swimming, cycling, fishing, aerobics or just walking
however 3-5% of adults practice them regularly
we prefer watching sports on TV exercising our fingers
                        on remote controls

the UK doesn't have many aqua parks because
-you waste too many liters watering your lawns

Ha! A lethal combination: single taps and the upkeep of an English
                          garden..!

                            Ha!An "immortal" combination...!
                            ................................
as long as your garden is green!

.....and by watering your pretty, evergreen( Not much frost) gardens.

Aqua parks are popular but quite new in Poland. There is another
activity very popular in Poland- climbing, walking mountains. I was
thinking about it - In Poland you can meet teenagers, family with
children, old people walking mountains. In England it is not very
popular,I think.......too many breaks for quick beer on the way:)

Or that is because everything is private here, there are only
special paths for gamblers-walkers anywhere ...not much feeling of
adventure..... In Poland my favourite is Bieszczady beautiful and
      wild.....

When I visit Poland I will definately try out an aqua park..There
are some winderful walks in the south of Dorset, UK...the hills of
Purbeck being one example..ditto along the banks of the river Frome
in Wareham..for me, the beers come at the end of the walk..I like to
        build up a thirst..!

          Krakow has nice aqua park.

Bit far to Dorset for me. I think that the closest place near me for
          good walks is Derbyshire......

It probably depends on the school. My son goes to primary school (F2) and there
very are strict rules. Teachers are very polite and helpful. My son is the only
foreign child and didn't speak English when he started school but he plays with
other children and participates in all activities like other kids.
Maybe the problem with violence is partially caused by the fact that lots of
kids come from different backgrounds, the schools are big and London isn't a
very quiet place to live... So what can you expect?
